How do I sell one unique item because it is handmade?

How do I sell one unique item because it is handmade? I have one product and 13 variations, each a unique one-time item. The dashboards show that I have an excess of inventory when I only have one item. I do not have the same duplicate item. I cannot find a way to sell just one at a time, and I need to create variations of the same product every time.

To clarify, you want to have 13 options for an item (like 13 colors). And once a customer selects and option and places an order, you want that item to be at ZERO inventory for ALL 13 options. Correct? If I am misunderstanding, maybe take another swing at describing what you are trying to achieve.

Well, that's not how variations work on Amazon. Each variation is its own listing with its own inventory. You would have one Parent listing and 13 Child variation listings.

I don't think there is a way to achieve what you want via Amazon at all.

On Etsy, one could do that, as you can choose to set the inventory/quantity for the entire listing rather than at the variation level.

"The dashboards show that I have an excess of inventory" Not sure what that means. Not something I have seen.

To create a variation family to group products that are similar in nature but differ from each other by a single factor, like color. In this Create product variations one at a time read, you’ll learn how to create a product variation and variation family in Seller Central, and view or edit variations you’ve already created.

Best regards and have a good weekend.
