I have an active seller account currently and I have an opportunity to become a member of another, new LLC that plans to open an account and sell completely different products here.
While I manage my current account I will *not* manage this LLC's account and of course, I know better than to so much as log in to another account from my IP address and device.
Here's the rule: "Not operate more than one selling account on Amazon without a legitimate business need"
So, does anyone know if being a partner in a second business that sells here is prohibited? The only thing I can grab onto is the word "operates" but I sure don't want to be in a position to parse words with a bot.
Or, who can I ask about this? It's way too critical to trust to seller support.
Hello @Seller_BE3xPpZWhTS9Z
This is Sandy back here with an update.
I contacted partner teams for validation of multiple accounts. Please check the information below in a Q/A format.
Q) What is Amazon’s policy on operating multiple seller accounts?
Selling Partners who have a legitimate business need can operate multiple Selling Accounts and do not require Amazon’s approval.
Q) Where can I find this policy?
This information can be found on the Seller Code of Conduct pages in each marketplace: US
Q)Didn’t Amazon have a process for approving multiple account requests?
Yes, while Amazon used to process approval requests for sellers wanting to operate multiple seller accounts, we no longer require sellers get approval from us to open a second selling account.
Q)What is the guidance for opening a second selling account?
Amazon recommends that you only open a second selling account if you have a legitimate business need and all of your current accounts are in good standing.
Q)What is considered legitimate business need?
Amazon cannot make this determination for a seller, but examples of a legitimate business need are:
• Owning multiple brands and maintaining separate businesses for each. Example: Parent company has multiple brands and want to have separate storefront names for each
• Manufacturing products for two distinct and separate companies
• You are recruited for an Amazon program that requires separate accounts
Q) What if my previous request to open another selling account was denied – can I now open another account?
Amazon is no longer requiring sellers obtain approval for multiple selling accounts. However, Amazon recommends that you only open a second selling account if you have a legitimate business need and all of your current accounts are in good standing.
Q) I was enforced for having related accounts. How do I correct this?
This means you have an account that violated one of Amazon’s policies. As a result, an account related to that account was also enforced. You must reinstate the originally enforced account by following the appeal directions in the e-mail you received on that account. You will then be able to reinstate the related account by following the appeals process in the e-mail you received regarding the related account.
Q) What if I don’t own the originally enforced account that my related account was enforced for?
You'll able to reinstate the related account by following the appeals process in the e-mail you received regarding the related account.
Thank you for your question! Please let me know if you have questions.

Hello @Seller_BE3xPpZWhTS9Z
My name is Sandy from the Community Manager team on Forums.
Thank you for your question here. When you say "I have an opportunity to become a member of another" do you mean that you will be added as a secondary used to that other account or something different?
If it helps. this video is also helpful in understanding how to comply with Amazon’s Multiple Account policy.
Sandy
Thanks @Sandy_Amazon! I didn't find that video and it was helpful.
My original question only regarded ownership in the business, i.e., I would own a portion of a second business with an account on Amazon, but would not be involved in managing the Amazon account. The video isn't completely clear on that point.
But the video did explain the "business reason" for having two accounts, which could apply here. Each is a separate business, selling under a different brand with completely different products. That could allow me to assist in the new business.
However, I must admit I'm a little nervous about *not* getting permission first, helping to set up a new account, then having to leg wrestle a bot to justify it based on the biusiness needs policy.
Hello @Seller_BE3xPpZWhTS9Z
I agree with you. Based on the information you have provided, I would say that your need to be a member of the other account falls under a "business reason" and follows the example (in bold) below under examples of a legitimate business justification:
There is no "permission" to get this approval from Amazon, but I understand how you could feel nervous. I'm going to ask a partner team to see if they can validate my answer if that helps! I will be back once I receive updates.
Please make sure that all accounts will have to be in good standing :)
