Creating a New Variations of an Existing Product

Hi,

I am a new seller on Amazon. I will list a product that has already been listed by someone else. I want to add a variation of the existing product; the owner is not me.

Firstly, can I add a new variation for someone else's already listed product?

Secondly, can I edit the title, description, and bullet points for this already-listed product? I believe I can create a better product.

Best.

Hi @Seller_OyrHCXMzRZv63,

Thanks for posting here and welcome to selling on Amazon!

For both of your questions, this depends on the brand that you are trying to list. Some brands only allow sellers that are authorized by them through their Brand Registry to create variations and edit their listings. If you try to create a variation and get an 8040 error, or you try to edit a listing and it doesn't update, the product is likely in Brand Registry or your account does not have the winning contribution. Ensure that if you are editing any listings, that you follow the Product Detail Page Rules for editing listings. Ensure that if the item has changed in any way, including packaging, that you create a new ASIN with a new UPC.

I hope this helps!

Regards,

- Manny
