Shipping Adjustments from Amazon

We purchase shipping through Amazon's Buy Shipping. We enter the correct package dimensions and weights and yet in the past 2 months, we've received over $40.00 in shipping adjustments for an average of $4.20 / shipping adjustment. Our product only lists for $11.99 with shipping included. These adjustments are starting to make quite a dent.

We feel like if we buy shipping through Amazon with correct package dimensions and weights (my adjustments never show a correction to my dimensions or weight), and their software doesn't charge me the right amount, then it's on them to eat the correction.

Am I wrong to want to have accurate shipping charges up front? If I try to dispute them they direct me to the post office, which does not offer any way to dispute these arbitrary fees.

You are not wrong to want accurate charges up front, but these adjustments are not unique to Amazon Buy Shipping.

Every major shipping system can have post-shipment adjustments because the CARRIER audits the package after it enters the network. UPS, FedEx and USPS can all correct charges based on their measured weight, dimensions, zone, packaging or service characteristics.

So the important distinction is that Amazon is generally passing through an adjustment from the carrier. Amazon is not independently deciding that your $11.99 product should suddenly cost another $4.20 to ship.

If the adjustment truly does not identify any difference in weight or dimensions, then I would absolutely want to see the carrier adjustment details and dispute it through the carrier process Amazon provides.

But I would not stop using Buy Shipping over this. The protections that come with Buy Shipping are worth far more than a few dollars of occasional adjustments, especially on A-to-z and delivery-related claims.

I would also weigh and measure the package exactly as it is handed to the carrier, including all packaging. Even very small dimensional differences can trigger a different billed amount.

If you are using USPS, UPS, or Amazon Shipping then the rates you see when you are about to click that button are the rates you pay.

The only disclaimer is for FedEx, these rates are always Estimates.

These charges do not originate from Amazon. They are charges from the carriers that Amazon passes through to sellers.

Buy Shipping Services - Terms and Conditions: We reserve the right to adjust charges after they are initially posted to reflect adjustments by the applicable carrier or other service provider

Per Amazon terms: Prices shown at Buy Shipping label purchase are estimates, and final charges reflect the carrier's actual rates. USPS and other carriers finalize actual postage once the package moves through their network, and the difference between the estimate and the carrier's final rate is billed back through Amazon's pass-through billing.

Please note that Seller Central often does not display updated information regarding carrier-audited dimensions and weight. Even if these show as matching the original label information, USPS may still have found differences. In addition, there are reasons besides weight/dimension differences leading to adjustments.

The slower this platform gets the more you see random charges and fees just like slower times usually mean more return abuse. With sipping charges there is nothing that can be done they say they do not have control so it is basically THEFT! We have noticed on items that were shipped with 100% correct accurate dimensions and weight then you get a charge and you the seller are forced to eat the over charging and smile while big business is stealing from you!

I am protesting the predatory billing practices on Amazon Buy Shipping regarding USPS APV adjustments. Amazon is executing a blatant financial double standard that exploits third-party sellers.Between September 7 and September 10, 2026, Amazon flooded seller accounts with retroactive shipping charges for labels purchased between January and March 2026. When USPS software flags a package as heavier than estimated, Amazon instantly claws back the money. However, on those exact same dates, there is no record of overpayment credits for sellers who provided higher weights. The USPS APV software handles both functions automatically, returning overpayment funds directly to Amazon. By pocketing these refunds, Amazon is engaging in unjust enrichment. If Amazon does not immediately pass through these overpayment credits, federal oversight is required. This constitutes grounds for the USPS OIG and FTC to step in, or for a class-action lawsuit to be filed. I demand a full audit of my January–March 2026 adjustments and an immediate manual credit for all overpayments.
