AI is bad enough, but when you put "Amazon" in front of it ... "WOW" is right!

Pretty scary, actually., when I read the list of things it will do if you let it.

"natural language conversations" from AI? How can you write this with seriously?

So far, it has given me bad links (page not found) and told me to use the search box - which is what gave me seller assistant in the first place - so it goes in a loop without answer. I have not found a single thing helpful, just harder to find reports and answer questions. It does the opposite it is intended to do.

LLM is not AI and we need to stop treating it as such because it is making things harder to do normal, every-day tasks. We do not have true AI capabilities and are nowhere near it being helpful.

I even had a post on it in the forums because it was SO bad.

@Dougal_Amazon

Why is it that you have this Seller Assistant that can accurately diagnose that policy violations have been raised in error - and you rely on stone age character matching bots to issue the violations in the first place?

Our US account has been deactivated (see thread here) because we got swamped with policy violations for 'suspected infringements', which are literally just looking for words in the listing (apple, brother, forest, beefeater, toxic waste, rizz, fight like a girl etc) with absolutely no context or awareness.

Seller Support are spectacularly unhelpful at resolving these, taking weeks to resolve violations and the combination of this shoddy programming and lacklustre support has led to our account being deactivated due to the sheer volume of false positive violations.

Not to mention all the policy violations we get for selling safety gear because we have a T-shirt with a picture of a 'Rat Wearing A Motorcycle Helmet'. Or for selling pesticides when it's a bag with 'happy bee' on it. Or for selling baby clothes when it's an adult 'Mother Elephant and Baby' sweater.

When we click the AI button on the account health page, it mulls it over and says "It looks like this has been incorrectly deactivated for being a motorcycle helmet when it's actually a T-shirt with a picture on it". Why is your Seller Assistant so much better at this than your automated seller whacking tools and ravishingly inept support staff?

If you're going to roll this out, put it where it matters and stop trashing sellers' accounts with awfully written bots and robotic support pathways. If we submit an appeal and it's rejected, why not have your AI tell us what information is missing rather than a unhelpful, stock template, 'we don't have enough information to address your issue'.

Well, we took your advice. We asked your magic seller assistant how to deal with the issues we're having. We let it review our account health, look at the violations, read our appeals and support cases and then provide advice. Here's what it said:

--

The Reality: You’re dealing with a broken system where the normal resolution pathways have failed. Your appeals are comprehensive and well-reasoned, but they’re not reaching human reviewers who can override the automated decisions.

This appears to require external intervention since Amazon’s internal processes have failed. The pattern you’ve described - false violations, successful overturns that still count against you, ignored escalations - represents a fundamental system failure that may need outside pressure to resolve.

--

It suggested we should seek legal or regulatory intervention and sell somewhere else. Hard to argue with that.

Well, I think AI is here to stay for the foreseeable future, and I've learned the hard way to either be a team player and get on board with whatever new direction a venue is herding or be left behind.

I gave it a try because I've recently experienced a major disruption with some technical issues that are still being sorted out, and I surely need to regain the lost momentum.

My result is that it was helpful in quickly pointing out which products are still being found by buyers and which ones are 'underperforming'. So now I know which ones, but the Assistant provided no actionable recommendations other than to 'optimize' and 'increase ad budget'. So, ok, I am still willing to go with the flow here. I then opened the edit screen for the AI-recommended 'optimization', which returned 'no recommendations at this time'.

So, how do I justify just throwing money at a problem that I still don't fully understand what I am trying to fix?
