Case Pack & Master Carton Clarification

First from the help topic-

Case-packed products

  • All products in a box will have matching SKU and condition and will have been previously packaged together by the manufacturer.
  • All boxes with the same product will contain equal quantities of that product in each box. For example, a case-pack of 24 units must always contain 24 units.

  • The case pack limit is 150 units per case.

    • While receiving this type of shipment, the fulfillment center scans one unit from the box and the box is placed in inventory. There is no need to scan every unit because they are all the same.
  • In some cases, a manufacturer or distributor may package more than one case-pack into a larger box called a master carton. Master cartons do not qualify as a case-pack and must be split at the appropriate case-pack level.

Sending 3 cases.
Each case has 3 of the identical items
I will put the 3 separate cases into one shipping carton, I enter the shipping plan as Case Pack 3 cases of 3 items using a Master carton, right?

Mixed ASIN Shipment
I want to put 5 cases into a shipping carton.
3 cases will be the same ASIN with the same number of ASINs in each case
1 Case will be a different ASIN
1 Case will be a different ASIN.
How do I enter this into the shipping plan? It does not seem to meet the Case Pack with Master Carton requirement.
I need to get one master label for the outside of my shipping carton for the 5 cases inside. How do I enter this in the shipping plan software? Thank you in advance.

If you put them in one shipping carton, that would be a master carton and you can not do that. Personally If I were in your shoes, I would create the plan as Case Packed with 3 cases of 3 each. Amazon would no doubt have me send them to 2 or 3 different locations and chances are that one of those locations would be somewhat near me.

As far as the mixed ASIN shipment, I would create a new shipping plan. Do not put the items into a shipping carton yet. I would list everything as individual items, Amazon will no doubt tell you to ship different items to different locations. Once you know where they are going, that is when you can put them in shipping cartons for each location.

Does anyone have experience shipping pallets to Amazon. Our sales are high enough that doing individual cases is becoming too time consuming and are no longer able to keep up with what Amazon recommends we send them.
We’re curious as to how we can send multiple ASINs, what is the max height and weight of a pallet we can send, and what the preferred labeling method is for that.

Thanks for any advice.

FBA is not going to open more than one level of case/carton to get to your sku’s. The first outer box they open will be your “case”. They do not recognize a “master carton”. If you have a sku that is packed more than one in a carton by the manufacturer, that is your “case”. That is what amazon calls a case pack. If you have more than one case of the same sku and all of the cases have the same number of pieces in the cases, then you have multiple cases of that case packed sku.
We put all of our case packed sku’s on one plan and hope they are all routed to the same fc. If there are enough of the cases going to the same fc, we will use LTL partnered carrier and palletize the shipment. If not, they go parcel carrier partnered via UPS or Fedex Ground.
For your sku’s that are not packed in cases by the manufacturer, they must go on a separate plan as individual items. As Arizona Dave said, put them on the plan first. Once you see how amazon breaks up the shipments, you put them into as many boxes as appropriate.
