We have opened cases for each charges marked "other" or "adjustment". IGNORED and transferred. Came to a conclusion that UPS is charging us for amazon return labels.
ONLY problem, we never use UPS and our account settings have all (enforced) return labels only USPS.
All our returns come to our address on-time, with USPS labels, have the correct dimensions and address label on them.
Most of these AMAZON charges come (with or without a ID#) randomly about half a month or up to one and a half month later. Some are from buyers trying to avoid return shipping charges and place a fake return reason, we opened a safe-T claim, was awarded the shipping costs back and about a month later we get a shipping cost "adjustment" for equal or slightly the same amount.
When questioning seller support they closed the phone on us and about 10 minutes later got an email saying "shipping adjustments" that was charge to your account is because you live in a rural area, "mileage charges" "rural area" charges etc. NO we do not live in a rural area and UPS did not send this package, USPS did. We asked at the post office and they can not respond because the labels are issued from (the client is amazon since they created the label) amazon and there is not enough info for them to take care of this case by case. Also, they assured us that we are not "rural" and do NOT charge "extra" in our postal code.
Every time we open a case or talk to seller support, they "transfer" the case only to be ignored and never answered.
On June 06, The whole history of all these cases (case #12960135441) were erased from the case log Amazon. They do not show up anywhere and the case has shows "transferred".
AMAZON: Your case has been forwarded to another Amazon team and they will contact you regarding your question.
No one cares or notices because all these monies are "small change" up to about $13.00 everytime and coming slowly but steadily come out of our accounts. IS THERE A SOLUTION????
Same thing happened to us June 6 with an unexplained, out-of-the-blue charge for $12+. We buy our own shipping now since Amazon-UPS ripped us off on an insurance claim. We have only had one order in the last couple of months, so this charge should not be related to an order. I have been dealing with Amazon customer service (what a joke) for a week and my case keeps getting marked as answered when Amazon messages they will be transferring the case to someone who can tell me what the charge is for. They repeatedly mark as "answered" even though no one has ever responded. This is a shady game Amazon is playing, obviously they are hiding something. The only way I can figure to get to at least get a clue about what Amazon thinks why they have a right just to erroneously take money is to file a charge-back to my credit card company. UNBELIVABLE, SHADY BEHAVIOR BY THIS COMPANY!
Hello @Seller_f230iEOxANw9R and @Seller_P1220Ik0HCmjH . Thank you for checking in with us on the Seller Forums.
There are two different ways in which sellers are informed of shipping adjustment fees issued by carriers for either outbound or return shipping.
These charges may be individually listed in Seller Central and linked to the order, or you may receive a monthly email detailing these adjustments, with the total adjustment debited or credited as an "Other" fee. Did you receive an email detailing the charges?
Adjustments may be for differences between the package dimensions/weight and the label purchased, or for additional handling fees charged for unusual packaging size/material.
You can read more about carrier adjustments in our seller help pages, linked below:
Hello @Seller_f230iEOxANw9R I see that you posted in the below thread. I will answer those questions here:
While that thread was specifically about UPS charges, outbound or return carrier adjustment fees can be issued by any carrier, including USPS.
The recent Remote Area Surcharge was specifically for return shipments sent using UPS, which is generally used for shipments over one pound:
Prepaid return shipping carriers
"USPS First Class mail will ship most items under one lb. UPS Ground will ship items between 1 to 90 lb."
Still waiting on this information also once a Safe-T claim is filled out you can not resubmit for the same order. Amazon should have provided all the item numbers and researched IF safe-t claims were already filed before charging these absolutely ridiculous fees. I am thankful I have slowed down on Amazon and shifted most of my sales elsewhere. The fact that Amazon has still not even backed up this with order information or looked into the return (which most are buyer abuse) is absurd.
Hello @Seller_3jklMu9gL1Ar4. These Remote Area Surcharge corrections were issued by the carrier for UPS return shipments. I do not have any information from our partner teams about a path to file SAFE-T claims for orders affected by these return shipping surcharges.
@KJ_amazon The problem is there is no way for us to verify what orders this is from and we have filled out Safe-T claims on pretty much all of our returns from that time the majority of which are buyers taking advantage of Amazons lax return policy. These charges should have been absorbed by Amazon period. Amazon continues to ignore the fact that they have a return issue with their customers.
Hello @Seller_3jklMu9gL1Ar4. Carrier adjustment fees including remote area surcharges may be applied to orders or your account after refunds are issued.
I have continued to share seller feedback about this subject with our partner teams.
@KJ_Amazonso translation at any time Amazon can charge fees without even the slightest of documentation to it's sellers AFTER all safe-t claims have been processed? I really think Amazon needs to start looking into it's buyer return problem instead of passing more bogus fees to it's sellers.
Hello @KJ_Amazon
Last year when Amazon started allowing UPS to deliver some returns there was an outpouring of concern about the higher return shipping prices.
Amazon clearly responded to us sellers by stating that any higher return shipping charge that was charged by using UPS instead of the USPS would be covered by Amazon and would automatically be refunded to the sellers account.
What happend to this as I have seen zero evidence that this is happening?
Hello @Seller_3wzBczgcWe0Ch . Thanks for checking in with me. Can you please provide a link to that thread or news article about the coverage of higher return charges?
Our address is NOT a rural area. ONLY UPS overcharges for unknown reasons like this. And they charge us after the safe-T claim has resumed up to two months later. Safe-T claim only allows you a certain period of time to file. And you can only file once.
My account had ONLY USPS return labels. We have post offices 15 minutes away from each other in a 20 mile span. outbound or return carrier adjustment fees can be issued by any carrier, including USPS but they don't. They DO NOT>
amazon chose the send the buyer those return labels and we are getting the bill fit on us.
BTW we have had absolutely NO resolve in our cases. NO money was returned to our account.
As long as we keep on checking that our return labels bought buy amazon are on USPS we stopped having those problems.
ALSO, the books we had returned were not over a pound.
Hello @Seller_f230iEOxANw9R
I followed up with you with the specific tracking information for the return shipping correction from May. If you have additional orders you would like me to review to make sure the labels were issued by UPS and that the weight was accurate, please response to our earlier case or let me know whether you'd like me to open a new case.

Hello @KJ_Amazon, there was no solving any of the other 5-6 cases, what's the point? No money back. Nothing.
Note: as long as I have only USPS in my return preferences it doesn't seem like I have problems.
The other day however, amazon back charged me for a shipping label (113-3270436-1033068)
that had been awarded back to me by safe_t.
The buyer bought a book - claimed arrived too late (not) returns a used book -not ours!. Safe-t claim give me restock and shipping back n forth instead of 50% as amazon policy says for material different than what I. send.
2months +23 days after safe_T claim resolves, amazon sends me another bill for the return label.
Yes, I opened a case 13387847841
it's "answered". Not. Because they never answer as we have approached the safe-t claim after it's been closed.
Hello VakosBooks,
We have denied your claim for order 113-3270436-1033068.
Why is this happening?
There is no reimbursement due on this order.
AND HERE IS THE SAFE-T CLAIM DECISION FOR REIMBURSEMENT ON THE UNFOUNDED!! AMAZON CHARGE. (not the post office fault)
Hopefully you will be able to do something with this case. When I do file to safe-T claim, I will add this link and ask for the extra surcharges to be included according to this link and post it here. thank you.
