Help with Amazon Buy Shipping Set up

We are brand new and have everything approved to start up our sales and shipping. I'm a little confused about the Buy Shipping set up process. Given 2 different "opinions" by researching. We are a FBM set up, we will use UPS only and everything will ship either Next Day Air or Second Day Air. Do I need to set up SSA with flat rates plus shipping in order to have a base for Amazon to work with on charging shipping OR does Amazon use the products weights when someone purchases to calculate the shipping costs. I just need to make sure we're not stuck with UPS charges due to not charging enough for shipping up front. Then we weigh out once packaged and owe money instead of making it

Are you in the professional seller plan. Only FBM sellers in that plan can set up their own shipping plan.

A quick shipping tutorial:

In the mail order business, shipping is always paid by the buyer, not the seller. You calculate the shipping cost with the selected shipper from your zip code to the furthest zip code away from you, and charge that same price even it the item is sent across the street. You can display the shipping cost in 4 different ways. but that shipping cost is always paid by the buyer.

1. Free Shipping: Add the shipping cost into the displayed price.

2. Display the shipping cost separately from the product price.

3. Display a % of the actual shipping cost separately from the product price.

Example:

Shipping cost is $5.00

-Display shipping as $1.00

-$4.00 goes into the product cost

4. ADDITIONALY: that $3.99 Amazon will automatically display has nothing to do with the actual shipping cost. It is a holdover from Competition with eBay where shipping costs were all over the board. So, Jeff Bezos decided to display a $3.99 shipping cost for everything sold on the site. A 4oz trade paperback book cost the same as a set of encyclopedias to ship.

5. How, and where to purchase shipping. Any shipper you select will get your product to the buyer, and all have different costs that the BUYER PAYS. However, what the shipper you select has to offer, makes the difference.

When you purchase shipping thru Amazon, Amazon will handle all of your INR (Item Not Received) claims, at Amazon expense. That alone is worth its weight in gold. This started on May 1, 2016. Prior to that date INR claims were massive headache. This one policy was the best one Amazon ever changed for the better as far as sellers are concerned.

If you purchase shipping off the site, YOU are the one who has to handle your INR claims, with no assistance from Amazon. If you do not refund the buyer in full, Amazon will do it from your account for you.
