New seller not winning Buy Box even with competitive price

Hello sellers,

I am a new Amazon seller and I listed a product with a competitive price, but I am not winning the Buy Box and I have not received any orders. My account is active and there are no warnings or restrictions.

I checked my shipping settings and price, and they seem correct. Other sellers are getting the Buy Box even with similar or higher prices.

Could this be related to new seller metrics, handling time, or something else? Has anyone experienced this before?

I would really appreciate any advice. Thank you.

It's because you're new. You won't get the BB until you've proven yourself to Amazon, regardless of your pricing. You'll need some orders (all handled perfectly), and a positive feedback or two helps, but doesn't seem to be as important as in years past.

WARNING. Do not try to get orders, and especially not feedback, by having friends or family buy your product. Amazon will likely figure it out, and suspend you for manipulation. You just need to be patient.

Welcome to Amazon's version of "Catch-22".

Hopefully you're selling an item that is different enough that someone will find it and buy.

Also don't forget promoting yourself on social media; just a few clicks to your page may help a bit with search algorithms.

Like I've said in other threads, if you can come up with a product that has real differentiation—something that can be clearly stated in a product title buyers are searching for—you can get sales very quickly on Amazon even if your market segment is small.

Our newest product—a little niche item we suspected there was a need for, selling for under $20—started selling as soon as it showed in stock. There was none of the usual frustration of fighting for the Buy Box.

I honestly believe that selling the same generic stuff as everyone else on this platform is the road to financial ruin.

Hey @Seller_yU7wG2DzwcwmU

Welcome to the community, and thanks for reaching out about Buy Box eligibility! This is a super common question for new sellers, and I'm happy to help clarify what's going on.

Here's the deal: Winning the Buy Box isn't just about having a competitive price—there are several factors at play, especially for newer sellers.

Why you might not be winning the Buy Box yet:

  • Account age & history: New sellers typically need 30-90 days of selling history and fulfilled orders before they become fully competitive for the Buy Box.
  • Performance metrics: Amazon looks at your order defect rate, cancellation rate, and late shipment rate—but as a new seller, you may not have enough data yet.
  • Shipping speed & cost: Even with the same price, sellers offering faster or cheaper shipping get priority.
  • Stock availability: Make sure your inventory levels are healthy.

What you can do right now:

  • Keep your prices competitive (but don't race to the bottom!).
  • Ship orders quickly and accurately to build positive metrics.
  • Consider enrolling in FBA if you haven't already.
  • Monitor your Account Health Dashboard in Seller Central.
  • Be patient—it typically takes time to build the performance history Amazon looks for.

The good news? Once you start fulfilling orders and building positive metrics, your chances of winning the Buy Box will improve significantly. Focus on excellent customer service and fast shipping in the meantime.

Hang in there—you're on the right track!

Best Regards,

Thea
