Item returned to sender

I got a message this morning from a buyer, saying that the package said it was delivered but on USPS it is saying Alert: Addressee Unknown & Your item was returned to the sender on June 6, 2024 at "-------" because the addressee was not known at the delivery address noted on the package.

I never seen this error/message before and am pretty confused on what to do from here because the customer needs the item.

If you used Amazon buy-shipping, refer the buyer to the claim process. They will have to wait past the end of the delivery window to file a claim.* Belay this.

If you did not use Amazon buy-shipping, just refund. You could wait to receive it back before refunding.

Do not send another unless the buyer places another order. Do not resend the package.

* Edited to add: I realize that if the item is returned to seller, this should not be an Amazon funded refund, but a seller funded refund (sellers should not keep both the merchandise and the money)

This shipping loss is just one of those things.
