well, do you have a credit card on file that accepts Amazon charges? (not debit or prepaid)

First, be sure it is an actual CREDIT Card. While Amazon claims that a Debit Card will work, that is seldom true! They WILL charge a Debit Card for initial fees but they will NOT take it on a continuing basis most of the time despite their claims!

Put the CREDIT card number into your BUYER side account first. Wait an hour (sometimes less) for the gerbils to work their way through the system and then put it in the SELLER side.

Following up on your post. The "Invalid Charge Method" notification means Amazon was unable to process a charge to the credit card on file for your seller account. Amazon requires every seller account to have a valid charge method (credit card) on file — this is the card used to collect selling fees, subscription charges, and cover any negative balance on your account.

When your card expires, is declined, or has outdated information, you'll receive this notification and your access to Seller Central may be restricted.

Common Causes

  • Your credit card has expired
  • The card was declined by your bank (insufficient funds, fraud block, etc.)
  • The billing address on file doesn't match what your bank has
  • You're using a prepaid, virtual, or gift card (these are not accepted)
  • You're using a debit card that isn't being accepted for verification
  • The card's credit limit is insufficient to cover the charge
  • You have accounts in multiple marketplaces and one has an invalid charge method (this can block all marketplaces)

How to Fix It — Step by Step

Method 1: Update Directly in Seller Central

  1. Log in to Seller Central
  2. Go to Settings → Account Info
  3. Under Payment Information, click Charge Methods
  4. Click Replace Charge Method for the card you'd like to update
  5. Re-enter your card details (even if using the same card, re-enter all information)
  6. Ensure the billing address matches exactly what your bank has on file

Direct link: https://sellercentral.amazon.com/sw/AccountInfo/ChargeMethod/step/View

Method 2: If Method 1 Doesn't Work — Update via Your Buyer Account First

  1. Go to www.amazon.com
  2. Sign in using the same email associated with your seller account
  3. Click Your Account → Payment Options
  4. Delete all cards currently on file
  5. Re-add your credit card to the Amazon.com buyer account
  6. Wait approximately 1 hour
  7. Go back to Seller Central → Settings → Account Info → Charge Methods
  8. Update/replace the card

Verification Checklist

Before submitting, confirm the following:

✅ The card number matches exactly what's on your physical card

✅ The billing address matches the address on your credit card statement

✅ The CVV code is correct

✅ The card expiration date is at least 6 months from today

✅ The cardholder's name matches exactly

✅ The card is not prepaid, virtual, or a gift card

✅ The card is chargeable in USD (for US marketplace)

✅ The card has adequate credit limit to cover any charges

Important Notes

  • It can take up to 48 hours for changes to your charge method to take effect after updating.
  • If your bank requires a security code (via SMS, email, or token), make sure you enter it correctly when prompted.
  • If you sell in multiple marketplaces (US, CA, MX, etc.), ensure your charge method is valid across all linked marketplaces — an invalid charge method in one marketplace can block your entire account.

If the Issue Persists

If you've tried both methods above and are still seeing the error:

  • Contact your bank/card issuer to confirm there are no blocks or restrictions on the card
  • Try a different credit card entirely. If none of the above works, open a case with Seller Support:

Go to Help → Get Support → Selling on Amazon → Your Account → Charge Methods and provide details about what you've already tried
