should I delete listing

@Jim_Amazon

Dear Jim,

I have a listing with no brand (brand: Generic).

I have ever tried to change the Generic by template to my registed brand after I have a brand. but failed with error code 5995.

OK, I won't change and I know this operation is illegal for Amazon policy.

BUT, when I check the listing and want to edit other information of the listing, I found I can not do it. Every time I want to do it, the screen will popup message "You may not change the brand name of this ASIN. Use the brand name currently displayed on this ASIN details page. If you believe that the brand name you are using is accurate, please contact Sales Partner Support with error code 5995."

So, I tried to contact Sales Partner Support about this.

They replied to me that:

1. tried to change the brand name back from new brand to generic by template.

2. if failed, I need to delete the old listing, and make a new same listing with brand "generic" after 24hours.

Now, I failed to change the brand name to Generic by template. I have no choice to delete the listing and make a new listing after 24 hours. Before doing that, I have few questions below:

A. when I make new listing, I will use same ASIN number, right?

B. the ratings and reviews of old listing will be kept and remain in new listing?

C. stocks will be distributed to new listing automatically?

Thanks.

It is against Amazon's brand name policy to change the brand name on a listing after it has been created, so you will need to create a brand new listing using the brand name. A brand new listing means that it will have a new ASIN, will start with no reviews or ratings, and if you have inventory at FBA, you would need to recall it, relabel it to match the new ASIN, and send it back in.

I took a look at CASE ID ending in 5341 which you spoke with Selling Partner Support on back on November 12th, 2024 and it appears they said the same thing. -->HERE<-- are the Product detail page rules along with the Amazon Generic Product policy.

Policies for editing detail pages

"If you choose to re-brand a product, refer to Amazon Brand Name Policy page for minor Brand name changes. Any major Brand Name change requests are considered re-branding and will not be supported. To protect Customer trust and ensure catalog quality, we ask that you create a new ASIN for the new product."

Can I change the brand string on my product from "generic" to branded, or branded to "generic"?

"As part of Product detail page rules, if you create a new product with the brand string "generic", or its local translation, the brand string cannot be changed later. Brand string changes from "generic" to branded, or branded to "generic" are not allowed to protect the integrity of the product. If you choose to re-brand a product, you must create a new product rather than updating an existing product. This is true even if the product is unbranded and does not change materially after the brand string change. This includes branding a previously unbranded product."

Feel free to let us know if you have any questions regarding the information shared above. Have a great rest of the week.

Sincerely, Cooper_Amazon
