Post office wants us to use different zip code for return address.

We live in a rural area. Out post office is a very small non automated post office. We usually take our packages to the larger, more automated in the next town as they will provide individual scan receipts (small one can not do this). The larger post office wants us to change our zip code on our Amazon store and return address that prints out so they get "more credit" for the packages we ship. We feel this is not a good idea as it is NOT our correct zip code for many reasons.

Thank you in advance for your responses.

"The larger post office wants us to change our zip code on our Amazon store and return address that prints out so they get "more credit" for the packages we ship. "

Someone at that PO does NOT understand what the PO changed a couple years ago!

It USED to be the case that the ZIP Code on the label got the credit for shipping every label even if it was actually dropped off and initially scanned in an entirely different part of the country!

That changed a couple years ago and now the PO where the items is SCANNED gets the credit for handling the packages.

Even if you did change the ZIP Code for returns it would NOT HELP that PO since the items would be credited for handling at the location that the RETURN was scanned first -- no where near you or these PO locations!

I think the US Postal Service employees, especially the counter people are the most poorly trained people in the entire United States. Don't ever listen to anything they tell you because 99.9% of the time it will be wrong. You use your correct address.

We did this -- the post office wants the scan sheet at the zip code you are dropping off. If you don't do this they can refuse taking your packages in the future

Been there and done that. The local USPS agency manager's problems are not your problem. They have to process your mail regardless.
