Formal Dispute – Unsupported and Unjustified Retroactive USPS Shipping Adjustments

Amazon is deducting retroactive shipping adjustments without providing proof — other sellers need to review their accounts

I want to make other Amazon sellers aware of a serious issue we are currently experiencing with Amazon Buy Shipping and retroactive USPS shipping adjustments.

Amazon has been deducting money from our seller account for shipments that were completed months ago, claiming that USPS later determined that additional postage was owed.

The problem is simple: Amazon is taking the money, but so far has not provided us with actual USPS documentation proving that USPS requested these specific adjustments.

We have repeatedly asked Amazon to provide, for each charge:

The Order ID and USPS tracking number.

The original postage amount.

The amount of the adjustment.

The original package weight and dimensions.

The weight and dimensions allegedly measured by USPS.

The specific reason for the adjustment.

The date USPS supposedly reported the discrepancy.

The actual USPS APV, carrier record, transaction record, or other documentation proving that USPS assessed the charge.

Instead, sellers are often given generic explanations about how shipping adjustments work.

That is not evidence.

If Amazon removes money from a seller's account and claims that the carrier requested the charge, Amazon should be able to produce documentation from that carrier supporting the deduction.

These are not small amounts. When adjustments from multiple shipments are suddenly deducted months later, they can add up to hundreds or even thousands of dollars, directly affecting a seller's cash flow and ability to operate.

What is especially concerning is the lack of transparency.

We purchase shipping through Amazon Buy Shipping based on the rate, weight, and dimensions accepted by the system at the time of shipment. Months later, Amazon can debit the account with a shipping adjustment, while the seller is left trying to prove that the charge is incorrect without being given the underlying evidence that supposedly created the charge in the first place.

How is a seller supposed to dispute an adjustment when Amazon will not provide the carrier documentation behind it?

Amazon should not be allowed to simply say, “USPS made the adjustment,” deduct the money, and consider the matter resolved.

We are asking Amazon to provide full documentation for every disputed adjustment. If Amazon cannot demonstrate that USPS actually assessed a particular charge, then that money should be returned to the seller.

I strongly encourage every seller using Amazon Buy Shipping to review their transaction history, shipping adjustments, and older USPS shipments carefully.

Check whether Amazon has charged you retroactively for shipments from previous months.

If this has happened to you as well, please share your experience here.

Sellers deserve transparency, documentation, and accountability when money is removed from their accounts.

A deduction should never be considered justified simply because Amazon says it is.

Amazon: show us the USPS evidence behind these charges.

This is not the place for any formal dispute. This is a forum for other sellers. These AI created posts are very long-winded and are written as directed towards Amazon. We are not Amazon, we are other sellers.

If you want help from other sellers, post in your own words what the issue is and question - and then we might be able to give advice from our experiences.

Hello @Seller_wBW9S9s1Rc3AN. Thanks for checking in about recent carrier adjustments applied to USPS shipments.

📦 Carrier Shipping Adjustments: Understanding & Preventing Unexpected Charges

Carrier adjustment charges do not originate from Amazon. Per Amazon terms: Prices shown at Buy Shipping label purchase are estimates, and final charges reflect the carrier's actual rates. USPS and other carriers finalize actual postage once the package moves through their network, and the difference between the estimate and the carrier's final rate is billed back through Amazon's pass-through billing.

You can view shipping adjustment details in Seller Central by checking Transaction View > Transaction Type: Shipping Services, then looking for Product Details: Adjustments. They will be linked to the Order ID. You can click the adjustment amount to see the original postage amount and shipment details, and go to the order details for the tracking information.

In some cases, updated carrier-audited weight/dimension info may not be displayed in Seller Central. While customer-entered and carrier-audited details displayed in Seller Central may match, there may be underlying differences, as well as adjustment causes besides weight/dimension discrepancies. If you want to dispute the rate with USPS directly, contact their postage team at VerifyPostageHelp@usps.gov and reference your tracking number.

You also have to consider that Amazon has "deep discounts" from USPS if you buy shipping from Amazon for sending parcels to customers. And USPS is considering weight AND volume. Also consider the new charge for increased fuel price. I would guess that USPS is charging the correct amount to Amazon. BUT you have the choice: you can pay yourself from now on and you will see exactly what they charge. Of course paying more expensive than Amazon and losing a certain protection.

That is correct: as a general rule, if sellers would like to dispute carrier adjusted shipping charges, those requests need to be submitted to seller support.

However, for these situations that has already been done and sellers are seeking additional information. That is why I am providing suggestions to go directly to USPS to continue disputing the adjustments.

I understand sellers have not had success with the direct contact info, and I shared that with out partner team.

I wanted to share what I posted in another forum post regarding this same issue hoping that we can have this madness stopped and receive a prompt reimbursement:

-----------------------------------------------------

Same situation here.

Over 30 shipping adjustments totaling several hundreds of dollars and two open cases.

Then, last night the same message that sellers are receiving regarding the USPS "shipping corrections" going back to January. So they did it very quietly for the past few months and now that sellers are noticing, they sent an email to let us know.

How nice!

The problem here is that it is not just USPS but UPS too is charging exorbitant adjustments.

Something is very wrong...

Is this being discussed on Social Media?
