You must now tag AI-generated people in listings and A+ content

You must now tag product images that contain photorealistic AI-generated people with specific metadata before you add them to your listings and A+ content in any of our worldwide stores.

Recent legislation requires disclosure when images or videos in advertisements contain photorealistic AI-generated people.

To ensure compliance, you must use an IPTC-compatible metadata editor to add the keyword "contains-synthetic-performer" to the dc:subject (XMP) field of your image or video files before adding them to your listings and A+ content.

When you include this metadata, we'll add an indicator to inform customers that the image includes AI-generated people, where applicable.

This requirement only applies if your image or video contains photorealistic AI-generated people.

You don’t need to provide this metadata if your image or video:

  • Only features real people (even if they have been altered with AI tools)
  • Only features characters from movies, TV programs, streaming content, documentaries, video games, or other expressive works (e.g., the poster art of a movie or a video game cover art)
  • Doesn’t feature any people
  • Doesn’t feature photorealistic people

For detailed instructions, go to How to tag media that contains an AI-generated person.

For more information, go to Product image guide and Shoppable video guide.

Hello, I’d like to ask: if I use an AI-generated background image but do not use AI to generate any characters, do I still need to include a label?

Does this requirement apply if the AI-generated image is of a person without their face shown, or a closeup image that shows only part of a person, such as this waist-down image?

I've tagged several of my images with the “contains-synthetic-performer” keyword in the XMP dc:subject field and confirmed it’s correctly embedded in the file (verified with metadata tools). However, after uploading these images to my listing, I don’t see any visible disclosure or indicator appearing on the product images or detail page. Is this expected behavior at this time, or is there a delay in the disclosure feature rolling out on Amazon’s end?

Amazon recently announced that images and videos containing AI-generated, realistic-looking people must include specific IPTC metadata before they can be uploaded to product information or A+ Content.

I would appreciate clarification on the following points:

1. Which images and videos are covered by this requirement?

Does it apply to all buyer-facing images, including product listing images, A+ Content, Brand Story images, and Amazon Store images? For videos, does it apply to product videos, A+ videos, Store videos, and advertising videos?

2. Does the requirement apply only to new media uploaded after July 23, 2026?

What should sellers do with images and videos that were uploaded before this announcement? Can existing content remain unchanged for now, with the metadata added only when the content is updated or reuploaded in the future?

3. How should partially visible AI-generated people be handled?

Is the metadata required when only part of an AI-generated person is visible, such as half of a face, a covered or obscured face, or only one hand or arm?

4. How does this requirement relate to the existing AI-content disclosure option in A+ Content?

Previously, sellers could select an AI-generated content disclosure option when uploading A+ images. Under the new requirement, should images containing AI-generated, realistic-looking people use the IPTC metadata instead of the upload-page disclosure option? For AI-generated images that do not contain people, is selecting the existing disclosure option still sufficient?

Thank you in advance for any official clarification or practical guidance.

Hi,

How can sellers verify that the `contains-synthetic-performer` metadata was successfully detected for listing images after upload?

The tag remains present when we download approved A+ modules. However, Amazon appears to reprocess listing images, and the downloaded approved/live images no longer contain the XMP tag. There is also no visible confirmation in Seller Central.

Is there a status, report, or another way to confirm that Amazon recorded the tag during upload?

I've tagged my listing images with the “contains-synthetic-performer” keyword in the XMP dc:subject field and confirmed it’s embedded in the file (verified with metadata tools). I also added visible text on the images that say "AI-Generated". Do I need to include that text, or should I remove it and rely on Amazon to display that text when needed?

Also, I did not tag my A+ images with the tag because you have a checkbox for us to indicate if it is AI-generated. Is that sufficient, or do I still need to tag those images with the “contains-synthetic-performer” keyword in the XMP dc:subject field ?? I also added my own visible text on those images that say "AI-generate". Should I remove that and rely on Amazon to add the visible text when needed?

Please answer each question.
