📦 ⏳ Pending Orders: What You Need to Know
Hey Amazon sellers!
Let's talk about a topic that often causes confusion and frustration: pending orders. These orders can significantly impact your business by tying up inventory, affecting your cash flow, and potentially complicating your restock decisions. Did you know that orders can remain in pending status for up to 21 days? Let's break down why this happens, and what it means for you as a seller.
Why do orders stay pending?
There are several reasons an order might be stuck in pending status:
1. Payment issues: Amazon might be waiting for credit card authorization or for the buyer to complete payment at a convenience store.
2. FBA logistics: For FBA orders, Amazon might be waiting to gather all items or dealing with out-of-stock situations.
3. Subscribe & Save: These orders are placed in advance to align with delivery schedules.
4. Verification processes: Sometimes, our system needs extra time to verify order details.
What's the impact on your metrics?
The good news is that pending orders don't negatively affect your seller metrics. They don't count against your late shipment rate or order defect rate. However, they can tie up your inventory, which might impact your IPI score if the pending status persists for an extended period. Additionally, pending orders can affect your:
- Cash flow management
- Inventory planning decisions
- Available storage space
- Ability to accurately forecast sales
What can you do?
While patience is often key, you're not entirely powerless:
1. Monitor pending orders closely.
2. If an order remains pending beyond 21 days, don't hesitate to open a case with Seller Support.
3. When contacting support, provide detailed information about the affected orders and timeline.
Remember, if you need further assistance after contacting Seller Support, feel free to create a thread here in the forums with your support case ID. A Community Manager can review and escalate if necessary.
Have you developed any strategies for managing pending orders effectively? Share your experiences and tips below!
P.S. If you find a fellow seller's advice particularly helpful, give it an upvote. It's a great way to highlight valuable information for the whole community! For more information see the Pending Orders help page.

Many of us think that pending orders should be given maybe 48 hours and then cancelled.

My issue is that once a pending order clears it, if it has been pending for some time, shows up in my open orders as late. A pending order that just popped into open orders is now showing that we are late two days on the shipping and that it is going to affect our metrics. Is the customer being told that the order is processing while the order is pending payment? The day the order goes into the unshipped orders is when the shipping clock should start, not when they placed the order.

Greetings @Seller_jjvEFnWK5z1yW ,
Have you reached out Seller Support to report this? I'd like to review it further and see if I can contact an internal team with this example.

@Bryce_Amazon- All my orders today are in pending status and I'm 100% FBM. I have never seen anything like this. Is there a glitch going on?
