I’m confused on how the new reimbursement policy will affect “collectibles” on Amazon. For example, if you buy a baseball card for say 25 cents, hold for 5 years and it’s worth $200..will Amazon only reimburse me the 25 cents…or even perhaps the 3 cents it cost to manufacture?
I deal in collectibles, and the original retail cost can sometimes be 10% of what the current value is, and the manufacturing cost can sometimes be 3% of the current value. So if I sent in a box with $1,000 worth of collectibles, and Amazon loses it (which they tend to do)….the risk is that I might only get back $30?
“On December 10, 2024, Amazonannounced a significant change to its FBA inventory reimbursement policy, effective March 10, 2025. Amazon is moving towards reimbursing based on the manufacturing cost of lost or damaged inventory rather than the previous reimbursement model, which was based on the item's selling price.”
everyone should be up in arms over this, its not right and the burden for us to submit proof is ridiculous.
No reimbursement for the shipping of the product to amazon, nor placement fees, its just terrible. I just took a look at their valuations of my items and in most cases its significantly under what I paid.
Horrible update to FBA reimbursement policy going into effect on March 31, 2025.
TLDR
Sourcing costs are arbitrarily determined by amazon, its up to you to prove actual costs.
They gave me a page to update and maintain the actual costs of all my 1500+ SKU's. (As if I had nothing else to do, Fun.)
Reimbursement for unsellable items is based on a "discounted sale" valuation
If they lose my crap and find it later they have right to dispose or sell it. Who is to say they lose my $100 collectible that I paid $20 for and then go and sell it themselves for a profit.
Strict penalties for submitting premature or numerous requests, potentially delaying support or leading to account suspension. Man penalties for trying to get your money back.
Yes you are correct. If we were to sell collectibles in the future and this policy does indeed take effect as it stands right now, I would definitely not do FBA.
Greetings,
Thanks for raising your question here.
We calculate our estimate by evaluating the sourcing cost of comparable products sold by Amazon, by other sellers, and through other wholesale channels. We understand that this may not reflect your true cost, and so we have given you the ability to provide your own sourcing cost for your reimbursements.
If you disagree with our proposed reimbursement amount, you'll be able to dispute the amount through the Get Help page once the policy change takes effect on March 31, 2025.

....which begs the question, Why are you selling collectibles FBA? Wouldn't it be safer with more control and ostensibly more profit if you were FBM?
Time for you to switch to the FBM model!
That is FAR more reasonable than to expect Amazon to reverse the New Policy once implemented.
Good Luck!
I am still trying to figure out why you would send a collectible to FBA. I need to get past that first before i can respond to the rest of your query and i will not get past that.
This is the same for any seller that send things PEOPLE INGEST to be handled in a warehouse that PUBICLY says your products could be subjected to temperatures as high as 155F.
It is lunacy. I offer 12000 skus and ship everything from my own FDA food warehouse facility. So, if a brand choose me for their Amazon sales. I SHIP IT.
I do not use FBA and WFS like Pattern, Fortress, Net-rush and all the other marketing agencies that throw quality control right out the window. I believe ALL Supplement brands that have GMP certification should have it revoked for violating the storage controls in place to become GMP certified.
ok, I am done
I can assure you will get screwed 6 ways to Sunday, so, assume the worst because that is what amazon will do on purpose to screw over sellers. Leave this platform as fast as you can.
Please stop using FBA. Let's be honest Amazon has 10's of Billions of dollars tied up in warehouses and staffing. Time and time again they skew the rules to benefit their ineptness. Guess what happens if we don't accept these arbitrary rules? That's right they would have millions upon millions of square feet they're not soaking FBA sellers with those fees. Just like we vote with our pocketbooks when we shop the same is true with how we choose to run our businesses. SO PLEASE STOP ACCEPTING THEIR FBA RULES. DO NOT USE FBA!
