I wanted to bring to your attention a recent communication I received from Amazon regarding proposed changes to how renewed products are listed on the platform. Is Amazon thinking about stopping promoting sellers who sell renewed products soon?
The proposed change involves relisting refurbished items under the category of "used-like new." This move would effectively place renewed items alongside cheaper, used products, undermining their value proposition. As a seller of renewed items, this shift would likely result in losing the buy box due to the higher price point of renewed products compared to used alternatives.
Moreover, Amazon is suggesting the deletion of all old listings following this transition. This action would strip renewed items of their competitive advantage over regular products, diminishing their visibility and potentially impacting sales.
"Hello,
You are receiving this email as you have active listings on Renewed electronic products. We are writing to inform you of upcoming changes to the Renewed detail pages, offer and ASIN listing procedures and actions you can take starting March 13, 2024, to take advantage of this new customer experience.
Amazon Renewed offers currently exist on independent ASINs, separate from the new, equivalent ASINs. We are excited to announce technical constraints have been eliminated to allow refurbished offers to now exist on the same ASIN detail page with all other new and used offers. We are making these changes because customers want to evaluate all available purchase options and price points on a single detail page. We also expect the increased visibility and discoverability for Renewed offers will increase customer interest in refurbished products. For ASINs where there is no new, equivalent ASIN, the Renewed offers will continue to exist on their current ASIN. With this new experience there will no longer be a need to create separate Renewed ASINs, except when there is no new-equivalent ASIN in the Amazon catalog. This new experience also means that Renewed ASINs will no longer be created with the CRACT tool, instead Renewed offers will be added to the new equivalent ASIN. In cases where there is no equivalent ASIN, you will use the standard Amazon ASIN process.
For this experience update, we will rollout these changes in phases. The first phase will be launched on March 31,2024, and includes only “Refurbished – Excellent” offers of electronics products (Speakers, Headphones) in the US store. This phase will NOT include Apple/Beats products. The table below outlines action required and simple instructions. Please review this table and prepare to take actions. We ask for all changes to be made by May 15, 2024."
I'm curious to know if anyone else has received a similar email and what your thoughts are on this matter. Please share your experiences and insights.

We got the email too. It seems Amazon is discontinuing Amazon Renewed Program as a whole, or at least significantly restrict it. Sigh.
We got the same email as well and are concerned but trying to hold optimism.
We are scared of losing visibility, the buy box and all of the perks earned from having worked so hard to live up to the standard that Renewed items are supposed to hold over the standard Used item category.
One thing I am hoping this will eliminate is all of the returns due to buyers not realizing they were not purchasing a New item.
We hope that Amazon still finds a way to promote or highlight it's Renewed sellers.
This at the same time as the new FBA placement fees feels like a double stacked blow but I really hope that we all pull out of this ok for the sake of our small businesses and all of the families that depend on these sales.
I am glad it is being slow rolled and hopefully for those of us that sell discontinued vintage electronics; well those don't have new items being manufactured so my hope is those Renewed pages are not axed and are still kept intact.
If that is the case then hopefully most of our listings are gonna be ok.
Only time will tell.
As my dad always says "Tie another knot in your rope and hold on" which seems to be the theme as a seller on Amazon as there are always new policies that keep us pivoting and adapting.
Fingers crossed guys.
Hi, thanks for posting this. We are also very concerned about this. We used to sell under "Used Like New" category, and when we started selling under Renewed, our sales increased and we hired few more people. I am afraid that this change will affect our sales, and few jobs with that.
Sounds like the end for my Renewed sales volume and niche which represented 90% of my sales last year. The only hope is if I am able to retain the Buy Box for Renewed listing in the Used-Like New ASIN, which presently have no New listings and no Buy Box for Used items.
Below is my contact with Amazon Renewed through seller support.
-- Customers will see “Refurbished-Excellent” as the condition.

Me
"So how a customer will differentiate "Amazon Renewed" item from "Used-like New" under the new procedure?"
Amazon Renewed
With this change, Customers will see “Refurbished-Excellent” as the condition they can select. We will provide condition guides to educate customers on refurbished vs used offers.
Me
"OK. That's a relief."
About buybox for Renewed items -- No answer yet.
Me:
"My question is: since Amazon Renewed listing will be removed and all renewed products will be shown under the ASIN of brand new items, together with used
Does this mean the Renewed item will no longer have its own buybox opportunity?
currently, Renewed item has its dedicated ASIN so that have its own buybox"

"Hello again! Thanks for the question, currently this hasn't been directly addressed by our internal team, I will forward the question to our team and I will keep this case open. Once we receive a response from them I will contact you back with the information."
How did you get in touch with the Amazon Renewed department?
It appears that direct communication with Amazon's internal team and addressing the concerns of renewed sellers could help us prevent the removal of renewed listings in the future and safeguard our employees from layoffs.
I have been going back and forth with Amazon renewed a little today on these changes. We mostly sell in the Video Game categories so the first question pertains to that. I sent some follow up questions that should be applicable to everyone though. Below are the responses.
"I understand you have questions regarding the new behavior for Renewed listings.
Please note that video games, video game consoles and video game accessories are not part of the electronics category, they belong in their own "video_games" category. This category is not included in the change as of now.
Currently we do not have any concrete plan to expand further categories, however, if there is a change to the policy we will be informing all sellers through email."
"1. Will renewed have its own buy box separate from the "new" or "used" buy box?
In terms of Buybox, since the ASIN will be for Brand new, the buy box on the item will only show the New item and the rest of the conditions will show on the sidebar as the lowest offer price and not the best-selling option like it is today with Renewed Excellent.
2. Many listings in the renewed category have been upgraded with better pictures, and or better descriptions that are tailored more to the renewed condition. Will all of that be lost once these pages are combined or will it somehow reflect if the customer selects a renewed condition?
The detail pages are merged and the system will automatically consider all contributions (from the new and Renewed ASINs), the highest quality set of images will win. You will still be able to submit your image contributions. If they are not relfecting on the detail page you may contact us back to review the images of any set of ASINs you provide us with.
3. Will only renewed approved sellers still be able to sell in renewed condition? If so how does that effect current Used/Like New sellers?
Yes, only Renewed approved sellers will be able to list as Renewed. Renewed is not becoming Used-Like New. If you are an approved Renewed sellers using Used-Like new condition, “Refurbished-Excellent” will be shown as the condition to Customers which will be different from the Used offers. Additionally, these “Refurbished_Excellent” offers will be subject to quality enforcement."

Did everyone see that email about them pausing this rollout!
I am glad we all expressed our concerns so they can think through all of the concerns brought up by us all over the last few weeks.
We feel relieved even if just temporarily and heard.
If anyone gets any other new insight please do share.

Take care everyone; we are in this boat together.
