“Your package will arrive later than expected, but is still on its way. It is currently in transit to the next facility.”
Anyone else getting a lot of these lately or is it just me?
It is because so many states are affected by the sub zero temps the past two days. Some post offices have even been closed due to the weather.
Your package could have been affected by the polar vortex which has caused USPS to suspend operations in several states. I’ve received warnings like that during December. I usually don’t get too concerned about them…
It’s happened 3 times to customer orders in the last month or two. In each case the customer wrote to us asking where their order was. When we checked the tracking information, we saw the message the OP noted. We wrote to the customer, attached a copy of the tracking info, including the PO message, and asked them to give the order a few more days due to post office delay. By the way, each of these orders was delayed BEFORE the severe cold. In each case, we then kept track and each order was delivered within a day or two.
Additional note to original poster, there are many mean-spirited people on these forums. Not everyone is like this. It sounds like you are trying to do a good job for your customers. It’s important when a customer’s order is not received or, for that matter, when we place an order and it is not received. It’s still a situation that is at least an initial ding against Amazon and most of us want to see our orders be delivered on time.
“Cold weather.” LOL! Nope. This has been happening to me a lot! Worst I have seen throughout 2018, and it’s still happening throughout January. I don’t know what the USPS’s problem is with this. You would think with their rate hikes it would also include better service.
It’s like the package gets to a facility and just sits there while the tracking states “your package is on the way but will arrive later than expected” is auto-generated just to appease.
And to the wise guy that suggested the OP has nothing better to do but check all of his tracking, did you ever think it’s because his customer reached out to him asking where his package is because it’s late? That’s how I am finding out about them. There are probably many more that I am not even aware of because the customer didn’t notify me. The USPS is killing my on-time delivery metric, which in turn is hurting my sales. Back’s up against the wall. Can’t compete by offering free shipping and use UPS or FedEx. Simply not feasible.
We shipped a Priority Mail package on 11/19, which was supposed to arrive by 11/22. They buyer contacted us on 12/04 asking why he hadn’t received the item.
The tracking TODAY, Jan 31 shows:
Status - In-Transit since December 14, 2018
No tracking has updated since Dec 14th:as shows below. I filed an insurance for this lost package because it is obviously lost. The USPS sent me a letter to inform the claim had been denied because they show the package was delivered on December 10th , It arrived at one of the destination centers along the route, not to the customer, which is why it showing as “moving within the USPS network… to be delivered to its final destination”
USPS isn’t even honoring the insurance claims that are filed for these type of lost packages. I have obviously appealed this, but this entire thing is ridiculous.

Yes it gets suck in the Chicago hub a lot, they have crushed one and still delivered it. another ebay one was stuck I refunded it then it got delivered ;( .
I have one that seems to be stuck there now.
To clarify, I am a FBM seller and in the past few weeks I’ve been contacted by multiple customers asking me where their package is. When I look at the tracking I see the generic usps message. This started happening before the polar vortex so it’s not the cold. One of these lost packages was for a customer 25 miles away. It took 3 weeks for delivery. Now that I think about it, I’m pretty sure most if not all were shipped Priority Mail. Weird.
Thanks to those who responded with helpful feedback, I’m glad I’m not the only one seeing these issues.

It’s not just the cold weather. I have had an influx of these lately and checking the tracking #s on or about their estimated delivery date is the Only thing that has saved me from a slew of headaches, INRs, A-Z claims and negative feedback.
I have to do this now to give myself a head start to try and shake these packages loose from whichever black hole they were sucked into before the Delivery deadline hits and the customers start emailing me asking, What happened to their orders.
Before the Beginning of January I never sweated a package that missed it’s estimated delivery date as they usually got resolved on their own and gets delivered the following business day. Sad to say Right now that’s not the case, The packages tracking status will go from “out for delivery” and stay in that status indefinitely…
…or the tracking will change the following day to “The delivery status of your item has not been updated as of XXXX,XXX,XXX We apologize that it may arrive later than expected.”
…Sometimes you get the old familiar …“In Transit to Next Facility” for days on end.
About 90% of these packages ONLY started moving in the system after I initiated a Search on the USPS website. I don’t know what is causing this as of late but I hope The Post goes back to offering me reliable service with a hiccup every now and then.
Yes, lots of these and many customer complaints.
