Products not indexing question....

Hello Everyone,

We're new here so we have a lot to learn.

Posted our first product a few weeks ago. Parent product with a number of variations.

Two weeks later and none of the products are indexed at all. Even if I search for our brand name none of the listings show up.

I have reached out to support and they indicate they discovered an issue within the search/indexing system but the fixes are not there and updates/responses are very slow (general "we are still working on this" message last received 3 days ago). Not being impatient here but this issue began over two weeks ago.

The only way one of our products show up is if you specifically search for it including the brand name. It does not show up under any general keywords or search terms.

Two questions:

1) Is this normal? I have read that products can sometimes generically take a month(s) to index.

2) Is removing/deleting the product and relisting them of any use at this point?

Thank you for any advice.

Robert

Do NOT delete and relist it. That will just restart the process and can make things worse.

Amazon indexing can take much longer than people expect, especially on a brand-new ASIN with little sales history.

You will often see the product appear in Google or other outside search engines before Amazon fully indexes it internally for broader keyword searches.

30-60 days is not unusual.

Also remember that indexing and ranking are two different things. A product can be technically indexed for a term and still be buried so deeply in search that you think it is not there.

A couple other questions:

  1. Are you running PPC?
  2. Have you fully optimized the PDP?

Amazon's algorithm increasingly favors pages that it believes have a higher probability of converting. A new ASIN with little sales history, weak content, or low conversion signals is not going to get the same search exposure as an established page.

So I would make sure you have:

  • a strong title
  • complete bullets
  • backend search terms
  • all relevant attributes filled out
  • strong images
  • video if available
  • A+ Content
  • competitive pricing
  • PPC running to start generating relevance and conversion data

Then give Amazon time to understand the product.

While seller support may say there is an issue, this timeframe you mention is totally normal. Do not keep recreating the listing.

Since you are new, if you want to post the ASIN here, I would be happy to take a look at the actual page and give you some thoughts on anything that may be holding it back.

This problem magically disappeared for me when I started using PPC. This is not accidental. Amazon is not happy with the cut of your sales when/if they sell. They want more, more, more, more, more. You gotta give them their daily payout (PPC bribe) to be indexed fast.

Try it and watch how fast your previously non-indexed listings show up.
