Understand the INFORM Act and keep your account healthy

The INFORM Consumers Act is a US federal law designed to increase transparency for online customers. This law applies to you if you’re a high-volume third-party seller, meaning you’ve made 200 or more transactions resulting in $5,000 or more in gross revenue over a 12-month period.

Under this law, we must collect and verify your name, a government-issued identification document, a business address, bank account information, a working email address, a working phone number, and a tax identification number.

This information is collected and verified through your Seller Central account. Once verified, certain details including your business name, address, and contact information are displayed on your seller profile page so customers can identify who they're buying from.

Your account can be deactivated if you don't complete required verification or certification steps when requested. If your account is deactivated, follow the reactivation steps in the account deactivation email we sent you, or go to Reactivate your account at the top of the Account Health page in Seller Central.

Keeping your account information current helps you stay compliant, avoid disruptions, and build trust with customers.

To ensure your account is up to date, take the following steps:

  1. In Seller Central, click Settings, then Account Info.
  2. Review your information and update where necessary.
  3. Complete your annual certification when prompted.

To learn more, go to About the INFORM Consumers Act.

Why does Amazon allow sellers to disguise their identities by putting UPS Stores or Post Office addresses as the publicly displayed address on their seller profiles?

Hello,

Since June 12, we have been trying to update our account information after a change of address, but have been unable to complete it. I have opened many cases and called many times, and each time I'm told there is a known system issue your team is working on. Yet the problem remains unresolved, and the only follow-up I've received is a notice threatening to block my account.

We have sold on Amazon since 2019 and our account is in excellent standing, with fully healthy metrics. We have always acted in good faith to keep our information accurate.

Could you please (1) update our address as requested, and (2) ensure our account is not blocked while this system issue — which is on your end — is being fixed? I would appreciate a clear update on the timeline and confirmation that our account will remain in good standing.

It's important to mention that the "Legal Entity" and the "Country of Establishment" can NOT be updated! That means, it seems updated in seller central but it's not taken in the backend. So, if the yearly re-verification is coming, the system picks the initial, first input data to verify. If in the meantime a seller changed himself those two elements, the new documents will be rejected.

Since some months it seems that seller support CAN do this sometimes. So everybody wishing to change his "Legal Entity" has to contact seller support and is then put on a waitlist.

@Seller_Ac8AC5fMgwqp2 eventually that's your problem.

Btw I am asking myself how all these virtual US LLCs provide a utility bill..... never somebody answerd this question.

@Joey_Amazon@Kai_Amazonwhat's up with this?

Your documentation says "We must collect and verify your name, a government-issued identification document, a business address, bank account information, a working email address, a working phone number, and a tax identification number." That last character is a period, meaning: end of list.

However, you are now asking for (i.e. requiring) the RESIDENTIAL address of the business owner. Why? It's not in your guidelines, or the law (which somehow only applies only to this one, of all the platforms we sell on).

Tell you what, let's start with you giving your home addresses to us. That seems fair, right?

Hello. After we uploaded the documents for our US marketplace account, why was our Canada marketplace account suspended? We are trying to submit the required documentation for the Canada site, but the system prompts us to resolve issues with our US account first. Why are we not allowed to complete verifications for both marketplaces concurrently?

So why am I going thru this INFORM verification process if I haven't made over 200 transactions and not made over $5,000 in gross revenue in the last year? I'm a very small-time seller on Amazon, and yet I'm being put thru this verification process again - after going thru it all back in 2023! Right now they are having a hard time verifying my credit union account number AGAIN! Same crap like in 2023. Luckily a very nice moderator here in the forum finally came to my rescue and got my case to the right folks!

Maybe someone nice enough here can help me with that again...case #22412226551
