We have contacted the relevant Amazon team before, and they replied: We have modified the size attribute value of B0DKTFD3CQ with the tool, but ASIN has brand protection, and the modified size we submitted cannot be directly displayed. You need to delete this link with the inventory loading tool template, and re-release the product with this SKU and ASIN 24 hours later, providing accurate size for the system to capture. I also handled it according to the above requirements, but the foreground and background are still tampered with the value of 40".
This has seriously affected the normal sales of this product and its variants, please verify the situation and help deal with it. Change the size value of ASIN: B0DKTFD3CQ to 40 inches

Unfortunately, Amazon is doing a mass "correction" of the catalog. Amazon did not announce the magnitude of this correction.
My support case was transferred to someone competent and I was fortunate to receive a detailed explanation. I had a problem with the size contribution. I was contributing Small/Medium/or Large but the system was showing "Pack of 1" and I had no idea why. The associate explained that this is part of a mass change and that the catalog will now grab the size from the package quantity (for hair ties) and automatically display "Pack of 1".
I'm guessing that something similar is happening on your end that the associate who helped you with changing the contribution of is unaware of. I would assume that your category now displays inches as ". And its not possible to edit how to display inches. You can only edit the integer.
