Read onlyHi everyone,
I’m brand new to Amazon selling and could really use some guidance. I just took the leap and invested in everything I need to start selling used books through FBA: A Scoutly membership for sourcing, a barcode scanner, shipping supplies, a decent-size inventory of used books sourced from local thrift stores and independent booksellers, And of course, I signed up and paid for a professional Amazon Seller account
The goal was simple: start a small, used book business by giving pre-owned books a second life through Amazon. However, every single book I’ve tried to list so far has been restricted or gated, regardless of condition or category.
This is incredibly discouraging, especially since selling used books was the only reason I created and paid for the seller account. I'm feeling pretty lost, I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong, or if there’s a hidden process I need to go through to get ungated for books or specific publishers.
Has anyone experienced this before? Are there workarounds? Do restrictions lighten over time with account age or sales? Is there something else I should try before giving up?
Any advice would be hugely appreciated. Thank you in advance for your help!
The page you need to go through can be rather frustrating and non-intuitive. When you first enter a ISBN or ASIN on the "Add Products" page, you get a slide out page. You then have to click again on the ASIN to get the next page, where you'll see a greyed out "Sell This Product" button, and a notice below stating "Refurbished condition: we are currently not accepting applications....." You can ignore that notice; it applies only to "Refurbished" condition, and has been showing up for at least the 9 years I've been selling here.
So next, click the "Condition" drop-down, and select "Used". At that point the "Sell this product" button should become clickable.
At that point, you should be able to create a listing; although there are certainly books that will remain restricted. You'll likely be blocked from major textbooks (most of us are), and likely newly released bestsellers. There are also a few publishers who require approval through an established sales history; so yes, it would seem that restrictions lighten over time (although, of course. Amazon won't tell us any details).
If you've gone through all of this and still can't list, post a couple of the problem ISBNs.
If you want to try something obscure that is unlikely to be restricted (just don't actually complete the listing) see if you can get farther with B000KQ03QU
