How to deal with "No Longer Needed" FMB returns?

How are people dealing with "no longer needed" fbm returns? Are you charging a restocking fee? What about shipping fees? What to do if the item has been used?

Thanks in advance

Each seller handles them differently. You can decide how you want to handle them.

Here's how we handle them:

50% restocking fee for opened/used items that cannot be resold as "New"

100% restocking fee for empty box returns and swapped items.

If you want to recoup shipping charges you can file a safe-t claim if RFS or charge a restocking fee if not RFS.

Most of the times the item has been clearly used. We chare a 50% restocking fee as per Amazon's return policy. We provide images of the returned item if requested.

We follow the Amazon guidelines for charging restocking fees. That being said, we also apply for exemption from prepaid returns for all items valued over $100.00. It is amazing how much this has an impact on returns not coming back when people have to pay out of their own pocket. If an order is returned unopened/new, we are only out the outbound shipping.

This is a cost of doing business on Amazon... I watch them and close them after 30 days if the item is not returned. My nemesis is "exchange" orders which I cancel if I see them and just take the hit to metrics. About 50% of customers don't actually send them back so it's not as bad as it seems but it is certainly annoying. All of my items are made to order.

I am fine with return for any reason, but I would like to be able to set my return policy that they pay the return shipping if the item is not defective. Again, cost of selling on Amazon generally outweighed by much higher sales.

First of all make them go through the entire return process. Some will threaten you with all kinds of stuff.

Do not refund before you get the product but Amazon will probably refund once the item is on its way back.

Then do what the others are telling you.

the other thing I have with them is, we never received the item they ordered, and still having there refund

I have tried filing a Safe-T Claim for return shipping, but often get denied because it wasn’t an FBA item. Just another reason Amazon makes it difficult for sellers in the marketplace.

Im based in Australia and I get this all the time. The problem we have, is that because we are international, nothing works for us, not even Safe T Claim - nothing. Has anyone had any ideas or experience with this, and any solution? Amazon seems to favour 90% the end user rather the seller.

HI there @Seller_d4gS3S1VAJVNE,

In general you can see what Amazon expects for returns by reviewing the Seller-fulfilled returns, refunds, cancellations, and claims help page. You can also review the restocking fee expectations on the Guidelines for charging restocking fees help page. Thank you for your understanding.
