Whats up with "Running a Sale" now ?????

So, i sell power sports tools, specifically motorcycle stands. A couple times a month I usually run a sale for 4-5 days and take off $20 or $30 if I need to spark some purchases. Today, i went to do just that, but I have encountered a couple new problems ( thanks so much amazon ).

1) I normally click "edit" for each ASIN and scroll down to the pricing area of my listing. I would input the sale price and select the start date and end date. As of today, those fields are no longer there.......

2) Ok, no problem, i figured out where to offer a Price Discount by creating a new Price Discount Promotion. I select the two asin's i want to discount by $30 off and I click submit.......

3) I get an a pricing error from amazon that says my discounted price is too high for one of the two asin's. This asin has sales history and has a regular price of $239.95..... and my discount price was set to $209.95.........right now, its telling me that i have to offer it at a discount no higher than $189.95...........WHAT !!!!!????? So amazon can now dictate how much my sale price has to be?

Am i missing something???

Hi @Seller_GDEz1E7peMxYe,

Thanks for reaching out. I can help clarify what's happening here.

The sale price fields you're used to seeing on the listing edit page have been moved to the Manage Pricing section in Seller Central. You should still be able to set a sale price with start and end dates from there.

Regarding the Price Discount Promotion, Amazon does have minimum discount thresholds for promotions to qualify. This is different from setting a regular sale price. The promotion feature requires a deeper discount to ensure it meets the criteria for promotional visibility, so the $209.95 price may not meet that threshold even though it's a valid sale price on its own.

I'd recommend trying the sale price through Manage Pricing first, as that should give you the same flexibility you had before. If the sale price fields aren't appearing there either, please open a case through Get Help with the specific details and share the case number here so a Community Manager can follow up.

All the best,

Jameson

This is Amazon's new reference price policy that kicked in April 2026. They now cap how deep a discount you can show based on your actual sales history and verified price points. If your product hasn't genuinely sold at $239.95 enough times, Amazon won't let you discount from that number it recalculates your "Was Price" using your real 90-day sales data instead.

The edit fields for sale price disappearing is also part of this they moved everything to Price Discounts under Promotions in Seller Central.

Basically Amazon is cracking down on inflated reference prices to stop fake discount optics. Frustrating if your pricing was always legitimate, but that's the new reality.
