Listings Lounge: Add a Product vs. Inventory File Templates

Hi Sellers,

Welcome back to the Listings Lounge. Today we’re going to go over the two listing methods that are available to you when listing your products: Add a Product and Inventory file templates. Below is a quick comparison you can use for reference.

Add a Product vs. Inventory file templates

Add a product is an interactive listing tool that guides you through the process of adding and maintaining your inventory. It is ideal for adding one listing at a time and listing less than 100 products. It is available to all Sellers and available for listing in the product categories listed under Requirements & Restrictions.

Add a product is useful when you need to add one product at a time, and often is helpful if you know your product is already in the catalog.

Access the Add a product tool here.

Inventory file templates are tab-delimited text files that include the necessary information to list your products. They are ideal for adding multiple listings at one time and listing more than 100 products. They are available to sellers on the Professional selling plan. These file templates are easily editable in Excel, can be used to list and add products, and be customized for each product category.

Inventory file templates are useful to add large numbers of ASINs in bulk, and are essential tools for efficiently managing large numbers of ASINs (Amazon Standard Identification Numbers).

Access Inventory file templates here.

To learn more about each listing method, please refer to the help pages included in the comparison chart in the Compare and Choose Listings Methods page.

Note: If you have already listed your product, but have concerns with how it appears in the Amazon catalog, see Change a product’s category for more information. If you have any issues with updating a product’s category, please create a case with Seller Support and work with them to troubleshoot. You can share your case ID in a new thread (choose the “Create and Manage Listings” category), and a Community Manager will review to see if any further assistance is needed.

Share your thoughts! We'd like to hear about both the positives and negatives of each listing method. What aspects have you found effective, and where do you see room for improvement? Your feedback would be valuable to us.

Regards,

- Manny
