List as Individual Items or Variations of the Same Item?

I'm setting up my account and attempting to register my products. I will be selling a green sauce with two variations, original and hot. As these are two different products, they have two different "ingredients" lists. Do I list these products individually or as one product with two variations? It seems the first choice is more reasonable, given that I need to list the ingredients further down in the process. Appreciate any help. Thanks, Roy

Hi @Seller_SbzMpfRZsJ5S3,

I think I can help with your question about listing your original and hot green sauces.

Looking at Amazon's variation guidelines, they mention under "When to use variation relationships" that products should only be variations if they "vary only in a few, specific ways that do not alter the core essence and nature of the item." Since your sauces have different ingredients and heat levels, they likely represent different core products rather than simple variations.

This is further supported by an example in the same help page, where they specifically list "Body oils with different base ingredients" as an example of what should NOT be variations. While sauces are different from body oils, the principle about different ingredients seems relevant here.

You might also find it helpful to check Amazon's detailed guide on variation relationships. Under "Category level guidance," they emphasize that "products that function in different ways should be treated as different products."

Given these guidelines, I think listing your sauces as separate products would be the best approach.

Hope this helps with your decision!

Best regards, Michael

Hi there @Seller_SbzMpfRZsJ5S3,

To add some additional details to @Seller_i6S8knzW6zU6Z, when listing products on Amazon, as variations or not, you still list individual products separately with their own ASINs. Variation Families join up the individual products under a single detail page, however the ASINs are still separate in the Amazon system. If you are having any issues with your products please let me know. Thank you for your understanding.
