Preventing Shipping Discrepancies

Are you tired of dealing with annoying shipping discrepancies that delay getting your products to Amazon's fulfillment centers and into the hands of eager customers? You're not alone! Many Amazon sellers struggle with this frustrating issue, but it doesn't have to be that way. These shipping errors don't just cause headaches - they can also lead to costly delays, blocks, and even account health issues. That's why we're sharing these proven best practices to help you take control of your business. Let's dive in!

Are Inaccurate Shipping Practices Costing You Money on Amazon?

Incorrect or incomplete box content details is a top cause of shipping discrepancies. Amazon demands precise SKU (stock keeping unit), quantity, weight, and dimension info for each box. Make mistakes here, and you risk delays, blocks, or even shipment refusals. The solution? Use case pack templates to get it right every time!

Packaging and Labeling Done Right

Packaging and labeling issues are another major headache. Fail Amazon's strict standards around box sizes, barcodes, hazmat, expiration dates, etc., and you could face rejections or delays in your shipment being received. Carefully review the FBA policies and requirements, then double-check your shipments. A little upfront work saves big trouble later!

Be Aware of UPS Alternate Shipping Addresses

An alternate shipping address is required for certain Amazon fulfillment centers, like Nevada's VGT2. Use the wrong address, and your boxes could get returned. Check the list of UPS alternate addresses for new launch fulfillment centers to avoid this pitfall.

Track Shipments Like a Hawk

Closely monitoring your shipment status in the Shipping Queue and Shipment Summary is key. Spot any abnormalities, and spring into action with Selling Partner Support. Also be sure to provide accurate carrier tracking info if you are utilizing non-Amazon partnered carriers - failure to do so can lead to inaccurate shipment status updates and ultimately delay the inventory availability for customers.

Don't Ignore Those Inbound Performance Alerts

Amazon's Inbound Performance dashboard alerts you to issues. Review these alerts to understand the root cause, and take quick corrective action. Maintaining "acceptable problem rates" allows your inventory to be received quickly/accurately, help reduce lost/damaged inventory issues, and overall keep your account in good standing.

Are You STILL Struggling with These Top Shipping Discrepancies on Amazon?

You're definitely not alone, so let's break you free of these frustrations! We want to hear from you:

  1. What has been your biggest struggle with accurately reporting box contents (SKU, quantity, weight, dimensions)? How have you improved this process?
  2. What packaging or labeling requirements have tripped you up the most? How did you ensure you were meeting Amazon's standards?
  3. Have you ever had issues with using the wrong UPS alternate shipping address? How did you prevent that from happening again?
  4. How closely do you monitor your shipment status and performance alerts? What steps do you take when you spot issues?

How can you win with Amazon tho when they are always right? I am a handmade seller so I make the product, print the stickers, pack up and box so the count is reverified 3 times. Amazon always says there are some missing, which are not. As handmade, I don't have "receipts" since its not buy and resell so how would I recoup my losses or is it even worth the time?

I take photos of every layer of the box as it's being filled. The box is clearly labeled with number and date. All of the FNSKU labels are clearly shown in every photo. And still, there's often things marked as missing, which my photos always refute.

I'd love to see Amazon video record the boxes being opened at the fulfillment center. Show me the employee removing and scanning each item. If indeed my counts were off, so be it. But I believe 9/10 times, the error takes place at the fulfillment center. I have my photos, Amazon has their "investigation" and they have the final say on the matter.

"Are You STILL Struggling with These Top Shipping Discrepancies on Amazon? We want to hear from you:"

Lowes, Home Depot, Walmart, Acme, Northern Tool, Ace, CostCo, thousands of other retail partners and nobody ever complains about us short shippping them product except Amazon who make us grovel for ownership of ~5% of everything we've ever sent. Very frustrating. We use case packs and tamper proof tape but yet Inbound still somehow lose single units. Doesn't make much sense to me.

Reimbursement claims being denied because my carriers POD for a 15 pallet shipment isn't itemized is also frustrating. Show me a single carrier on the planet that verifies every unit on an FTL shipment at delivery and I'll stop complaining forever.

This, honestly, makes no sense. It's impossible to even create a case about a shipment until it has closed and you cannot even submit an investigation with UPS because we are not the account owner. All labels are technically created through Amazon's UPS account.
