Buy Box Win - Is price the only determining factor?
Hi Amazon community,
I read lots of articles that several factors influence if a seller wins the buy box and that a seller normally needs some positive track record to become eligible. However, in my experience, only the price seems to be the main factor and I was wondering if others encounter the same.
I have an account with excellent metrics, but any seller competing for a product wins the buy box from me if their price is only a bit lower than my offer.
I realized some sellers winning the buy box from me with lower prices no matter if they
- ship items out themselves via FBM from China with shipping times of 4-5 weeks (vs. my faster FBA deliveries)
- are completely new sellers who haven't sold any items before
- are sellers in very negative standing with more than 10 negative 1* seller ratings (obviously fraudulent sellers)
It seems that it absolutely doesn't matter how bad the seller is (even if they are fraudulent and got tons of negative ratings) and how long their processing and shipping times are, if they offer the product cheaper they win the buy box automatically?
Any insights and experiences from you are appreciated. Thanks

Price is just one of many factors. Shipping speed, FBA vs FBM, Your metrics, and how long your account has been active are among other things that determine whether you get the buy box or not
I can usually take the buy box by just lowering the price, but it doesnt work 100% of the time

That is a mystery shrouded in fog and information clouded with misinformation and ALL of it is on purpose.Amazon will NEVER give a 'formula' or every con artist on the site would have the 'buy box' and the huge majority would be their [Moderator edit Blake_Amazon: Removed inappropriate commentary] sellers.

Hey @Seller_wQDtX2g1aSZV9, as was mentioned already, there are several factors that go into becoming the featured offer. Check out the help page I linked for more info and a video describing some of these factors, and post again if you have other questions.
