FBM return window after return request

Once a buyer requests a return on a seller fulfilled item and they print the return label, how long do they have to ship the item back before I can close it out. It's been 18 days since the return request (the same day they received the item). I was under the assumption that they had 15 days to ship it and if they didn't, the return could be closed. Is this inaccurate? Do they still 30 days to return no matter when the return label was printed?

If they have the label printed, they have from now until you close your Amazon account to do the return is my understanding.. even years later. You can withhold a 10% restocking fee I believe if they return it over 30 days past when they get the return label, but that is all.

TNValley is correct. You can hope that, since it's been 18 days, they changed their mind, or mistook you for another seller. A seller can never "close" a return.

I currently have a return which Amazon granted 35 days after they received their book (should have been out of policy), and which has now been sitting for 18 days. This is a textbook, so it's probably a scam, either by the end user or the dealer who ordered it. Resale dealers are major abusers, even more than students, and I have a little list.

As mentioned, the buyer can return it basically whenever they want. I have found that if there is no movement on the label in a week or two, I won't get the item back.

Hello @Seller_NZc972I8hS0Rl Thanks for checking in about return guidelines and deadlines.

The timeframe for buyers to request a return and return an item is based on the delivery promise and is not determined by when the buyer submits their request.

The return request window can be calculated as 30 days following the last day of the Estimated Delivery Date, followed by a 15-day “transit time.” That comes out to 45 days past the EDD. (These are general guidelines, and are different around the end-of-year holidays, and vary for some categories.)

As per our Guidelines for charging restocking fees, sellers can charge a restocking fee of up to 20% if the buyer returns an item in the original condition outside of the return window.
