Sourcing from Alibaba

Hello,

I was wondering if I buy products, unbranded from a supplier on Alibaba and gave the invoice to Amazon, will it be acceptable, it is something tiny and not food or health related I am planning to packaging then send it to Amazon FBA, but I am confused, coz I see like thousands of products sourced from Alibaba on Amazon, and I have read a lot of opposite opinions that it is not allowed, please some one explain more?? thank you

Nope. If you buy from Alibaba, you need to brand and package the item yourself, and get all the required testing done for the item to be sold in Canada and send Amazon the reports.

You "might" be able to get a GTIN exemption, but they don't really give those out anymore.

Hello @Seller_ioqeqlObT47zM,

Thanks for your post. I understand your question about sourcing unbranded products from Alibaba suppliers and using their invoices for Amazon FBA. This is a common concern for sellers, and I can provide some clarity based on Amazon's requirements.

Key Points About Supplier Invoices for FBA:

Invoice Acceptance Requirements: Amazon generally accepts supplier invoices for FBA products when they meet certain criteria. Based on Amazon's documentation, invoices should include:

  • Full supplier details (name, address, phone, website)
  • Your business name and address matching your seller account details
  • Product descriptions that match your ASINs
  • Quantities purchased
  • Purchase dates before any enforcement actions
  • Verifiable supplier information through government resources or credible third-party sources

Regarding Alibaba Suppliers:

There's no blanket prohibition against sourcing from Alibaba suppliers. However, the key factors are:

  • Invoice Legitimacy: The invoice must be genuine and from a verifiable business entity
  • Supplier Verification: Amazon may verify that the supplier has a legitimate business presence
  • Product Compliance: Your products must meet all applicable safety, compliance, and category requirements
  • Documentation: You need proper invoices (not proforma invoices) showing the actual transaction

Important Considerations:

  • Unbranded vs. Private Label: If you're creating your own brand/packaging, you're essentially doing private label, which is acceptable
  • Product Type Matters: Ensure your products aren't in restricted categories that require additional approval
  • Invoice Requirements: The invoice should show you as the buyer and include all standard commercial invoice elements

My Recommendation: Sourcing unbranded products from Alibaba with proper invoices is generally acceptable for FBA, especially if you're adding your own branding/packaging. Just ensure you have legitimate commercial invoices and that your products comply with all Amazon requirements for your category. I also highly recommend that you familiarize yourself with Amazon's invoice requirements through our YouTube video.|

Best of luck,

Kris
