Fraudulent Gold Listings Continue to Flood Fine Jewelry

These scams continue and thousands of customers a week are being deceived, yet Amazon continues to look away? Fine Jewelry is a gated category and should be monitored closely for fraud, but the opposite is happening. Dozens of Chinese sellers are using 14k Gold in their title and details, but all of these listings are gold plated and NOT real gold! This is against Amazon policy, yet is being ignored.

Look at this title: "14K Gold Hoop Earrings for Women 14K Gold Earrings Lightweight Hoop Earring for Womens Earring 20/30/40mm".

Certainly a shopper would think that this seller is selling 14k Gold hoops, but they are not! In the 4th bullet point it is finally stated: "making the gold plated hoop earrings suitable for both casual and formal settings."

How is Amazon ok with all of the fake jewelry the customers are being sold? This fraud needs to be investigated thoroughly as the fine jewelry category is being infested with this scam.

Can any admin provide assistance or insight on how to get these listings and sellers investigated? We continue to do test buys and report violations, but are instantly denied on every attempt.

Ever since eBay and Amazon opened up to allow Chinese sellers to sell direct, this has been happening. They do not care. The platforms get their 15% cut. If the buyer is happy with the purchase they win. If the customer is not happy with the purchase then Amazon/eBay simply issue a refund to the buyer. Amazon looks like it's offering tremendous value against legitimate brands and retailers selling legitimate merchandise, but what they are pushing are knockoffs and low quality junk.

The only time Amazon or eBay cares is when it's a safety issue or an IP issue because then they can be held directly liable.

As I'm sure you know, this has been going on for years. I think it's safe to say Amazon simply doesn't care.

The jewelry department has been a clusterf--- for a looong time.

From a customer perspective, I will not buy fine jewellery from online marketplaces like Amazon now. I used to waste hours checking feedback and reading listings to avoid disappointment, but it's just too much.

I feel sorry for all sellers in this category because it is a mess, and has been for a long time, but Amazon just doesn't care and its system has no ability to sort the mess out.

Amazon is just happy to charge 20% across the board for fine or costume jewelry they really don't seem to care as long as they get theirs. Sorry to hear that it is affecting you.

Clearly Amazon has made a decision to allow this. We all know they could shut this down in less than a day if they so chose to.

@SEAmod was going to fix it, with a business team.

Hello @Seller_8rcwmHdQknTKG,

Thanks for posting to the Forums. In general, Sellers are responsible for complying with all laws, regulations, and Amazon policies when listing products. Amazon encourages sellers to report listing abuse or seller violations of Amazon's policies or applicable law.

All reports are thoroughly investigated by our team. For privacy reasons, the results of our investigations can't be disclosed, but we'll take any disciplinary actions we find appropriate.

I would encourage you to continue to report any abusive behavior using the Report Abuse tool. In general Amazon does not share the result of any internal investigation into a product or another seller. If the product is still live you can re-report it but please note that I won't be able to provide you with greater details regarding the results. I'm sorry for any difficulties this creates.

Regards,

- Manny

Your concerns are valid, but there is a lot of gray area here. They may be 14 karat gold, or they may be 14K gold filled, and the filled is simply left out. But that is not the gray area Amazon has to deal with when reporting the situation.

All Amazon is, is a broker between a buyer and seller, nothing more, unless you are paying FBA to run your business. Most of these sellers are offering their product from outside the USA.

They are not being sold from within the USA and are not subjected to USA terminology and standards for sale in the USA. The buyer is simply buying a product from another country and importing it to the USA themselves. They offer the same product in their home country where no one cares if the product in pure 14K or plated with 14k gold. The product may have a solid 1/4" thick solid post (to prevention infections) and the rest of the product is plated. The less the seller says, the better off they are.

So, this comes down to, is this fraudulent, misleading, or simply an error of omitting one word "filled"? It is certainly a situation for the Buyer Beware phrase.

Amazon does support the buyer though, by making returns on the product available as usual.

________________________________________________________________

Now as far as reporting goes, opening a case with seller support will not get you anywhere. What is more effective to bring a change is to click the tab on the page that says, "REPORT A PROBLME WITH THIS PAGE" as it you were a potential buyer. We have found that reporting a problem this way is far more effective. Don't use any spam or long complaints. Just say "listing does not identify if product metal is Solid 14k gold, or 14k gold Plated.

These sellers are carter to in China by Amazon. They may be offering 1000's of different products, so reporting one may not make at all. difference.

And one more thought. Don't think the new tariffs imposed on foreign countries will make any difference. The value of the single product has to be more than $800. Amazon is still offering overnight container service to China sellers.
