Is there are a new Return Scam I dont know about? Distinct rather blatant pattern
Is there some type of return fraud going on at the moment that I am unaware of where materially different low value products are being returned, seemingly through a third party?
Its very rare we receive returns but of late there has been a spike, but there was also an increase in sales so we did not think much about it, until one of the returns arrived.
We only sell gardening supplies so receiving a little notepad back as a "return" really stuck out, so we filed a Safe-T claim and were taken care of (Thank you Amazon) We thought that was the end of it until we received another return today, and you guessed it, it was another little notepad, identical to the last in shape and size but with a different caricature on the front. We do not carry, stock or resell these little booklets
Order #1 was shipped to SALEM, OR 97304 and Order #2 was shipped to GALVESTON, TX 77551.
Both returns packed in the same size mailing envelope, both return labels printed on a professional 4x6 printer, both returns SHIPPED FROM CA (Not even Salem OR or Galveston TX where the original orders were shipped to) and both products returned are identical little notepads with different faces on them.
Got a very threatening message at 2AM this morning for the second return as it arrived after hours on Friday so we did not see it until we got to the warehouse this morning. Just responded saying we did not receive the product we shipped and will happily issue a refund once we receive our original product back.

I have a third return on the way that meets the exact same model as the two previously received returns.
This one shipped to Florida, a house not even 10 minutes from where we are located but the Return we are waiting to receive back is shipping from Baldwin Park, CA, United States......this is one company probably drop shipping on Walmart. All three previous returns shipped from Baldwin Park CA

Thank you for sharing this, can you also share the order id? I'm seeing a trend on this thread as well, and I'm going to collect these to share internally with the escalations team.

can you also share what the message said? Screenshot?

Is this is widespread and rampant? Yes.
Out of curiosity, is there a SKU or barcode label on the back? Myself (and others) are doing some sleuthing.

I saw this exact post a few weeks ago unless it was you also but they were getting the exact same notebooks... maybe drop shippers trying to get refunds after they've collected the money from their buyers?
Here it is:
Some people are now reporting getting back a bag of black balloons instead of the item they shipped or that was shipped...
Another SCAM.
Looks like someone is stocking up on Dollar Store items for returns...
Refund at first scan is a big part of this problem. Maybe once Amazon gets tired of footing the bill for these refunds they'll allow us to fight back on our own again.
I also I also wonder about the refund fee they charge us...do we get that reimbursed when this kind of thing happens?

SAME THING IS HAPPENING TO US

Hi folks,
If you have commented on here and shared your Order ID and photos of a return that included Pokémon notepads/deflated balloons, please know that I have included it in my escalation for further investigation. Thank you for your help in reporting suspected buyer abuse!
Respectfully,

We are getting the same. You would think that when the guys are sending back the notebook, the return label is recording where and what time the drop takes place and there has to be a camera at one of these drop off locations. Mine are all being returned from the So Cal LA area, even if the original order was out of state.
Hopefully Amazon will be able to connect the dots.

So I spoke the a SAFE-T claims specialist and asked what sellers can do in the meantime as they continue investigating: Sellers have the option to charge a re-stocking fee up-to a 100% for a materially different return. If the buyer raises an A-to-Z claim and is granted, sellers can appeal to the claim decision via Seller Central. In case when a seller fails to issue the refund in the same case and Amazon issues it on their behalf, they can file a SAFE-T claim.
