Price Higher than Typical - Can't Increase Prices to Today's Costs

I just replenished inventory after Q4. We sell sterling silver jewelry and since my last order in July 2025 silver price has increased 100% ($38 to $82 today) and we are now paying the tariffs on top of that.

I shipped my order to the FC last week and repriced based off of current costs and now I'm being hit with "Price Higher than Typical" and there is no way for people to purchase. What am I supposed to do? Sell at loss?

No matter ow you look at it, what you are seeing in simply price fixing by Amazon. You know what you paid for your product and you know what the selling fees are for the product. Those prices are fixed into every product you sell. Now you add in your desired profit that must be derived, and you have the product offering price.

Two weeks ago in a press interview, Andy Jasey made a public statement saying due to Increased Tariffs and world events, prices on the site will rise. Yet Andy Jasey's Auto-Bots are telling sellers their prices are too high, not allowing sellers to set the offering price where they have to be to make a profit.

The company is becoming more dysfunctional every day. The CEO says one thing, and at the selling end, what the CEO says has no meaning.

Can the problem be corrected? Probably not, because all employees have in the back of their minds, they may be the next selected for termination. Thus, no employee wants to be the one to talk up about pricing problems.

Hi @Seller_aNryBfYO3DTmL

Thank you for reaching out! We understand how challenging it can be when rising material costs and tariffs impact your pricing.

When a listing is flagged as "Price Higher than Typical," it's usually because Amazon's system is comparing your current price to historical data. Here are a few steps that may help:

  • Review your Pricing Health dashboard in Seller Central (Pricing → Pricing Health) to see the specific flag and whether you can confirm your price is intentional.
  • Update any reference or list prices to reflect current market value, as outdated prices can make your new price appear inflated.
  • Contact Seller Support with documentation of your cost increases (supplier invoices, commodity price data) and request a manual review.

We hope this helps get your listing back up quickly! If you have further questions, don't hesitate to post here.

Best Regards,

Thea

As discussed in this thread, other sellers have suggested spreading tariff-related price increases in smaller steps — ideally less than 10% each — and spacing those increases at least 30 days apart to avoid being excessively penalized by Amazon’s algorithms.

So far, this seems to have worked for us — mainly because our component suppliers gave us plenty of advance warning about the cost impact of the new Section 301 tariffs.

Unfortunately the silver market price increased from $50 up to $115 in less than 2 months.

It looks like the forum moderators have helped with a very similar issue in the past, but it was necessary to open a case with Seller Support, show the Case ID in the original post, and tag a helpful mod as described here.

As noted in that thread, the issue was eventually resolved but it took a long time.

I’ll add that this is another case where Amazon's bots-gone-wild have no awareness of product categories and end up sabotaging sellers' listings—not just by restricting price changes in volatile categories like silver jewelry and computer memory, but also by:

Did this ever get worked out? Or have you been stuck in "High Price" Limbo still unable to sell where you can make any kind of profit?

@Seller_aNryBfYO3DTmLHello! as a fellow jeweler working in silver and other precious metals we feel your pain!

We have found a solution, detailed here in our forum post https://sellercentral.amazon.com/seller-forums/discussions/t/2df5226e-7b0a-458e-9cb5-36ecfe9ad07c?

Basically, amazon needs to update the reference price they are using for your items. In an ideal world this would happen automatically, but instead we have to help Support do this manually. If you have the item listed off Amazon at the higher price you are trying to sell at on Amazon, you can direct support to check the outside source and reset your reference price to what it shows on the 'competitor site' (even if thats your own site, support will see it as a competitor site and can use the pricing).

Hope this helps!
