Don't you just love these USPS carrier Adjustments?

Got this email tonight. I've had no returns in 2026 so that's not a reason. My return address isn't incorrect because It has not changed since the day I signed up on Amazon so that's not a reason. I have 1 package type I use when I ship through Amazon's buy shipping it's a flat 7" x 5" mailer that weighs 4 oz. The dimensions and weight never change so that's not a reason.

The only reason I can come up with is Amazon, and this happens frequently, is always behind on getting their buy shipping rates synced up with USPS rates and there were a bunch of small shortages on the cost that added up during this time frame, due to Amazons fault for not getting things set up right on time. These types of adjustments Amazon should have to eat as it is their system printing labels with the incorrect amounts. Granted it's overall a small amount for that 3 month period, but sellers should not be responsible for Amazons lack of preparedness when they have a very long time in advance to bake in the correct rates and on go day they can just turn them on in an instant, but I have noticed sometimes Amazon goes weeks before they catch up on new rates. Do better Amazon__________________________________________________________________________________________

Hello,

USPS assessed shipping correction charges totaling -19.92 on Fulfilled by Merchant labels you purchased on Buy Shipping between 01_01_2026 and 03_31_2026. You'll be charged for these corrections between 09_07_2026 and 09_10_2026.

USPS applies these charges when the dimensions or weight of a package don't match the label, or when your return address is incorrect or invalid. These charges may not appear in the same settlement period as the original shipment.

View your charges: Go to your Payments Dashboard. In Transaction View, filter by Shipping services purchased through Amazon, then search for "Adjustment" in the Product Details column.

Avoid future correction charges: Confirm that your products' dimensions, weight, and return address are listed correctly in Seller Central.

For more information, go to Carrier shipping correction charges.

More for me too. Thinking I should skip buying Amazon postage. Is it because of price adjustments as I know its not size and weights. And Of course we don't get a break down on what this adjustment is.....we are left to wonder. What is the nature of this adjustment?? Not fair at all. I want the information so I can be informed of these "adjustments".....so tired of all is lack of information.

Received same email for -29.28. This is so annoying and should be illegal as they are sending us a bill for adjustments from 6 months ago! I have received adjustments from last month yet they somehow they come up with new ones from 6 months ago???

The worst part is every box I ship I over estimate to avoid adjustments. A box 10x4x4 2lb 3oz I ship as 10x5x5 3lbs. When I get a bogus adjustment they copy my upped dimensions and weight!

Talk about stealing from a captured audience. I wish I could use another carrier but can't. And now with the super high rates like 4oz envelopes costing $7.46, USPS is working their way to extinction getting so greedy.

Received a similar, but strange message.

"USPS assessed shipping correction charges totaling -77.59 on Fulfilled by Merchant labels you purchased on Buy Shipping between 01_01_2026 and 03_31_2026. You'll be charged for these corrections between 09_07_2026 and 09_10_2026."

It is strange because we add ounces to every package and if the pack is 8x5x5 we put in 8.5x5.5x5.5. So things are put in larger and heavier than they are in reality.

In any event, Amazon forces these buyer to use UPS for return shipping...I have one return that i THINK may have been switched to UPS for return shipping, but yet USPS is claiming the price adjustment should go to them...If USPS was used, then the price increase of 1 cent makes no sense (yes, I got an adjustment for 1 cent!).

I am wondering how Amazon arrives at return shipping costs--do they look at what it costs to SHIP it to the customer, or do they evaluate weights/dimensions we input when creating listings?

It's a complete mess as far as I can tell.

Got the same email, except here it's -$112.18 and that's on top all the other shipping adjustments I've already gotten slammed with this year even though all of my orders are the same exact weight and dimensions so there is no reason I should ever be charged an overage for incorrect weight/dimensions. Prior years this happened on rare occasion but this year I've been hit with no less than 50 adjustments.

I've come to the same conclusion as you that the issue is Amazon is not showing us the most up to date rates for Buy Shipping at the time of purchase which as far as I'm concerned is THEIR problem and not OURS. If I was shown accurate rates at the time of purchase, I would have used a different shipping service. But Amazon doesn't care, they just pass the bill on to us and expect us to eat it.

And good luck fighting it with Seller "Support". While it is possible to get reimbursed for these charges (I've done it before), they make it an absolute nightmare and you will almost definitely spend more time than it's worth getting your money back.

Selling on here becomes more frustrating with each passing day.

It is time to start contacting our state AG's. This is fraudulent behavior because the reasons given are not accurate and information needed to address directly with USPS is being withheld by Amazon.

I received the exact same email for $174.00 even though every single week they are deducting for shipping adjustments already. How can they have proof of these from so long ago and why are they just now charging us? None of this seems legal.

Same email for us. Does anyone not use buy shipping and buy thru another service like pirate ship and still receive these charges? We are thinking of not using buy shipping at all as all the adjustments are getting to be quite costly. 95% of my orders are 4 ounces or less, yet we are still getting charges.

I got it too.

But this can be disputed because if we use Buy Shipping by Amazon, we get access to Pre-negotiated Discounted Rates of up to 31%...

If a seller uses Buy Shipping by Amazon and selects USPS or UPS as their carrier, and they can prove that their auditing protocol confirms a consistent entry and match of the package specifications for shipping to their customers, and they also confirm that the ADJUSTMENT charges are the difference between their promised Pre-negotiated Discounted Rates of up to 31% and USPS Base Flat/Trier Rates, then they may be dealing with a problem known as a... "Contract ID" Drop (software glitch)

Let me explain...

When Amazon buys a label from USPS on your behalf, it passes a specific Contract ID (NSA - Negotiated Service Agreement) to the USPS system. This ID tells the USPS computer: "Apply the Amazon 31% discount to this tracking number."

  • The Failure: If Amazon's system experiences a minor API timeout or data drop during the electronic manifest submission, the tracking number attaches to a "Default" or "Null" contract profile.
  • The Adjustment: When the physical package is scanned, the USPS billing system searches for your tracking number's contract profile. Finding none, it defaults to the standard base tier. It then issues an "adjustment" to collect the difference—effectively clawing back the entire discount.

And this makes sense when you consider how many of us sellers (who do our due diligence in auditing package dimension, weights and making sure it all checks out) all of a sudden get hit with massive backlogs of ADJUSTMENT charges.
