Buyer Return Reason: Arrived Late
I get banged for a $12 return shipping fee on an item that cost me $4 to ship. (Yeah, this started in January. still waiting on the mod/pacifier that is looking into it. Holding my breath too)
Amazon won't do a RFS because they've declared my 2 Ounce replacement remote controls Hazardous. Can't file a SAFE-T Claim because I'm forced to issue the refund myself. Can't honestly charge a restocking fee. Can't wait for Amazon to issue the refund (so I could file a SAFE-T Claim) because then I'd get bombed with an A-Z.
So I offer the best price for my product, get it to the customer quickly, and I'm beat out of $16 on an $18 purchase.
I already know what the next one will be - a buyer wrote yesterday and says he selected the wrong remote, asking if he can pay the difference and get the right remote. I instructed him that Amazon won't facilitate that, and instruct him on how to file a return, which he of course does. I advised him to select "bought wrong item" or "no longer needed" so of course he promptly opens a return claiming "defect". Once again I'll get beat for triple the actual shipping cost as well as the loss of the outgoing shipping cost.
It's just not sustainable anymore. Looking forward to the extended holiday returns, where returns on electronics have reached the 20% level on Amazon. Sickening. Absolutely sickening.
Oh - and then there is this little beauty: Last time I tried opening a case because Amazon charged triple on the return shipping, this is the enlightened response they provided: "In this case, to get the reimbursement for return shipping cost, you need to directly contact the carrier."

Yes, while I don't deal with the same issues as you, it's frustrating that Amazon decides that only expensive UPS shipment is suitable for returning a purchase; especially annoying when it was shipped using Media Mail, which is not only FAR cheaper, but if the customer can ship USPS, they can have it picked up rather than having to go to the UPS store; so I pay less in return shipping, AND the customer has a better experience*. I don't understand why they don't use the same method for a return as was used for delivery.
*(of course, the flip side is that if the return is difficult for the customer, they might never actually get around to returning it. But I'd rather deal with slightly more returns and paying less for them).
I am betting Amazon MAKES money on those UPS labels. Anything to make a buck these days. Glad we are done with Amazon this year.
Right now, my ODR is down the toilet, even though I buy shipping from Amazon. Amazon changed the handling time from 2 days to 1. Won't let me change back. Did set an "application" (or whatever) and told Amazon to change it. Amazon probably didn't do it, as the late delivery hits on my ODR metric rats are bombarded now and it's keep getting worse.
I opened cases. 1 person was talking about light and thing products. It has nothing to do with the tracked ODR metrics.
They also told me that it's MY fault that I Amazon changed the handling time and it's my fault that I can't change it back, and It's my fault that Amazon won't change it back either, even though It said Amazon will do that.
So, everything was great, 90 to 100% cart on product pages, now it's down to 55 and it's getting worse, day by day. :-/ So ridiculous.
Oh and the customers who order something, just return, but they get their money back, but they don't send back the product. Amazon told me to change the return thing, but there is no option to do that. I proved it to Amazon, they ignored the facts and pretended that they didn't see it... :-/
I wish it was 2014, it was the best, no nonsense, I got an order, packed it, shipped it. I barely got any complaints, there were no 4631263126 metrics nonsense, Amazon didn't refund customers who kept the products, way less scam, way less ghosting, and I could actually contact customers, even by text message. Good old days... :-/ Now it's so stressful because of all the mess. :-(
That's a safe bet, considering my UPS (and FedEx) rates are lower than what Amazon is charging for the labels. My shipping volume isn't quite as high as Amazon's is either (understatement of the century.)
I got 5 orders today. 3 of them had no full name. I keep getting returns from the USPS because they can't find the addressee-s. Fake names, nicknames, gamer-tags, etc. Yet, somehow I'm the responsible for delivery failures, even though the customers don't give me their names and right address. :-/
Yeah, but doesn't your bookkeeper deduct the retail price of the item and any return shipping as a loss? Hmmm.
It IS sickening. We ship USPS, but when a customer returns the item back by UPS, Amazon charges US $17! So if I sell a holster for $25 and free shipping (which costs me $4), then they return the item, I'm out of the original $4 PLUS $17. I'm just raking in the profits! LOL!
Here is the sad truth. Amazon API's the hell out on the seller side but refuses to do this on the customer side. They could EASILY do an API look up to determine if a customer can use "Arrived late" as a return option. if the item arrived on-time, just simply remove that option for a return reason. Amazon continues to aid and abet in customer theft. Its only a matter of time before the FTC cracks down and or some lawyer figures out a way to do a class action suit. We have over 200 examples of unfair business practice that we have submitted to the FTC and DOJ in Idaho.
Just think, there is someone in the forums who "downvoted" this and so many others like this.
Amazon is the worst. They banned me months ago because I suggested to another seller to raise his price instead of losing money. It was sound advice, but taken as some sort of insider price fixing thing. Way exaggerated. So it cost me almost $2000 to get inventory back/destroy old inventory. You think you need them but you don't. Switch over to another platform. The fees here are horrible, and Amazon is working really hard to stamp out the small stores. Only very large operations get breaks, and even then its razor thin margins. They suck. The time is now. Get out. Amazon sucks
