Opening a New Amazon Seller Account in the Same Household

Hi everyone,

I could use some advice on a situation I'm currently facing. About two years ago, my sister created an Amazon seller account, but she never ended up using it. Now, I'm thinking about starting my own business and venturing into the Amazon market. Her account is still in good standing, but since she never sold anything, I'm wondering what my best options are.

I have a few questions:

1. Can I open a new seller account for myself even though we're in the same household? I want to make sure I’m not violating any of Amazon's policies by doing this.

2. Is it possible to transfer ownership of her existing account to me? If so, what’s the process for that? Would there be any complications or things to watch out for?

I’d really appreciate any guidance from those who have been in a similar situation or are knowledgeable about Amazon’s policies.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Creating more than one account under the same household is not a violation of our policies, so long as they are owned by different individuals with supporting documentation or have an appropriate business need such as different brand. Keep in mind where this does not violate our policy, it can and likely will create some type of association with your sisters account.

The violation of our code of conduct - multiple account policy will occur if one of your accounts is deactivated for any reason. This is due to the violation being caused by an association to a deactivated store.

  • You may only maintain one Seller Central account for each region in which you sell unless you have a legitimate business need to open a second account and all of your accounts are in good standing. If any of your accounts are not in good standing, we may deactivate all of your selling accounts until all accounts are in good standing.

These situations will require that the original account is reinstated to resolve this type of violation. If your sister has no intention of selling on amazon in the future, it would be suggested to close the account. This will also help prevent this concern moving forward. I would also suggest watching our seller university video on how to prevent this type of violation.

There is no transfer of ownership when it comes to an amazon store. if you assume possession of her business, you may show a transfer of ownership but you would need to create your own account with your information. You can see more on our help page can I transfer my seller account.
