USPS Ground Advantage takes effect on July 9, 2023

USPS is consolidating its ground shipping options by combining USPS Retail Ground®, First-Class-Package ®, and Parcel Select Ground® into a single service: USPS Ground Advantage™. Get the details from USPS.

The new service will not be available until it is launched July 9, 2023, at which time you may need to update your listings.

USPS Ground Advantage™ (from usps website)

USPS is launching its new product offering USPS Ground Advantage™. USPS Ground Advantage will feature 2-5 day service standards for packages up to 70 pounds.

What approach has the Postal Service taken to launch USPS Ground Advantage?

Over the past year, the Postal Service has focused on enhancing its ground product offerings by upgrading service standard to 2-5 days, improving service reliability, simplifying shipping product offerings, and providing affordable pricing.

Lower Prices for Shipping Services. The Postal Service filed notice with the Postal Regulatory Commission (PRC) on May 10, of price adjustments for some Shipping Services to take effect July 9, 2023. Published prices for USPS Ground Advantage will decrease 1.4 percent relative to current Parcel Select Ground and First-Class Package Service pricing. USPS Ground Advantage Retail prices will decrease 3.2 percent and USPS Ground Advantage Commercial published prices will decrease 0.7 percent.

Improved Reliability Through Upgraded Service Standards. In August 2022, the Postal Service implemented upgraded service standards for its USPS Retail Ground and Parcel Select Ground products, aligning service standards with the current First-Class Package Service product within the contiguous United States. Service standards for these products were accelerated from two-to-eight-days to two-to-five-days for the same affordable price.

Simplifying Shipping Product Offerings. On February 10, the Postal Service filed a procedural filing with the Postal Regulatory Commission (PRC) notifying the commission of the Postal Service’s intention to rename its existing First-Class Package Service category with USPS Ground Advantage. USPS Ground Advantage will feature two-to-five day service standards for packages up to 70 pounds.

More Information from the USPS Website::::

USPS Ground Advantage™

USPS is launching its new product offering USPS Ground Advantage™. USPS Ground Advantage will feature 2-5 day service standards for packages up to 70 pounds.

Background information

As part of the United States Postal Service's strategy to enhance its shipping offerings, the product USPS Ground Advantage™ will provide a simple, reliable and more affordable way to ship packages from 1oz up to 70lbs in two-to five business days.

The Postal Service will launch its new streamlined product offering for consumers and businesses of all sizes on July 9, 2023.

Visit the USPS Coming Soon page to learn more about USPS Ground Advantage and join the official countdown to launch.

How it works

USPS Ground Advantage, available to retail and commercial customers, is a better fit by combining three existing USPS® services into one comprehensive product. It is a perfect option for shippers of all sizes who want affordable domestic ground shipping to all 50 states, U.S. military bases, territories, possessions, and Freely Associated States.

USPS Parcel Select Ground® service

USPS First-Class Package Service®

USPS Retail Ground® service

In addition, business customers can use USPS Ground Advantage return service as a convenient option for their customers who need to send items back. It combines returns options such as First-Class Package Return® service and Ground Returns.

The Postal Explorer website provides additional resources to assist customers regarding price changes. These tools include price lists, downloadable price files and Federal Register Notices.

$100 insurance is included (for both outbound and return shipments), and you can purchase up to $5,000 in additional coverage against loss or damage for merchandise.

USPS Ground Advantage prices are based on weight and zone (distance between ZIP Codes™). See the proposed prices at Postal Explorer. Weight ranges are:

Non-Standard Length fees apply (both Retail and Commercial)

---------

If indeed the pricing will remain the same, the addition of the Insurance will be a rather large incentive to use this service. Previously only Priority mail and above included insurance. Why this Isn't FRONT PAGE news for Amazon is beyond me right now. This is an important change for millions of sellers here. Most of us ship items that weigh less than a pound and use First Class Pkg Service...

I do question how Amazon is going to Adjust the Buy Shipping Program to accommodate this change? How much chaos is going to ensue on July 9th when this goes live?

what exactly do we have to update? the shipping template will have this option?

Seller_N7i6li7xYJVWS

Good information, however, shipping templates are still not updated. My concern is picking up my packages. All my label options from Amazon shipping are for First Class (other than Parcel select and Priority). When you schedule a package pickup from USPS there is no option for First Class. Is there going to be a grace period for picking up these packages until Amazon gets the Ground Advantage option up and running? All my packages are small and light, many under 8 ounces.

When is Amazon going to update the BUY SHIPPING with these rates. As of this morning, July 10, they are not available. I want to use buy shipping, but I'm not paying extra for Priority Mail. When are these rates going to be available???

Since Amazon has yet to properly implement USPS Ground Advantage in Amazon Shipping we did some additional digging and found the following on the USPS website. With this information it appears we can continue to use buy shipping with minimal impact. I would expect some minor price adjustments in the future but certainly less than the cost of using another carrier. That while maintaining A-Z coverage. I hope this helps!

The Postal Service Allows a Grace Period for Implementation of the USPS Ground Advantage™Service Type Codes (STCs)

Effective: July 9, 2023 During the grace period, the Postal Service will continue to accept, process, and deliver all legacy products that will merge to form USPS Ground Advantage without penalty or assessment.

These products are:•First-Class Package Service•First-Class Package Return Service•Parcel Select Ground•Ground Returns The Postal Service will allow this grace period following the implementation of USPS Ground Advantage on July 9, 2023. This grace period is effective until September 30, 2023.

The grace period will also allow for the receipt of parcels already in transit for delivery at the time of the implementation of USPS Ground Advantage. The grace period will expire on September 30, 2023. At that time, mailers will be required to comply with the new mailing rules, and noncompliance fees will be applied appropriately. Mailers are encouraged to adopt the new rules as soon as possible.

Is there any update on this? It's pretty ridiculous that eBay, Shopify, Stamps, and others have already updated to reflect new Ground Advantage in their systems. As well, since the Amazon shipments are still going First Class, I assume that means we are not benefiting from the $100 included insurance that Ground Advantage provides? Seems pretty unfair that we are on Day 2 and still people have to fork over for insurance coverage (I know buying shipping on Amazon has A-to-Z coverage for INR claims) and not have up to services and pricing.

Can't believe this is still going on after over a week. We are losing valuable coverage and protection the USPS is providing included with the price we pay, but we are receiving an inferior service still. Also, the UPS discounts have been gone since about the beginning of the month.

"The new service will not be available until it is launched July 9, 2023, at which time you may need to update your listings."

what exactly do we have to update? the shipping template will have this option?

Thanks for reaching out about USPS Ground Advantage, and a special thanks to the sellers including @Seller_8HBeojhszSviQ and @Seller_zyG3AlejdFqKL who provided information from USPS.

We are working with our partner team on these updates, and we will have more information and instructions available over the next day or two.

In the meantime, please continue shipping as you have been doing.
