I shipped this book as part of Prime. I bought shipping from Amazon. The book was delivered five days before the expected date. There was no refund requested or any message from the buyer about anything. They deducted 24.79 from my account for what reason? What is a “General Adjustment”? I paid for shipping to send someone a free book? I have never had this happen to me. Has anyone else been through this? Is this legalized theft? How do I get my money back? Is Prime just a ruse for Amazon to keep more of our money?

General adjustment, usually means, the CS rep, who handled the refund, issued a refund, for no apparent reason. Amazon’s way of saying, “We took the buyer’s side, with no regard for the seller.”

Most likely amazon rep took things in his own hands and issued courtesy refund to customer for whatever reason. File safe-t claim and you should be reimbursed.

You mentioned this "I shipped this book as part of Prime. " Did you ship as seller fulfilled prime order? If so, I thought that requires delivery within two days like real Amazon prime promise. If your order was delivered within two business days, then it might be the buyer just wanted the refund without return and Amazon approved the request. If your order did not get delivered in two days, the buyer could complain to Amazon and get full refund plus additional concession out of your pocket.

Happened to me recently on a buyer faulted return. I’d refunded the full item amount then filed a Safe-t-claim for the return shipping, which was granted. Then I was notified that buyer had been refunded an amount that was equal to the outbound shipping (which I’d not refunded) and that it had been taken from my account. Clearly a CS rep.

I filed a Safe-t-claim and got the money back.

Thats nothing. I had an non-prime electronic gizmo return auto-authorized today 56 days after item was delivered. Buyer claimed defective. Amazon policy states that buyer is to notify of defective electronics within 15 days. This company just makes schitt up as it goes along.

If you don’t file a Safe-t-claim then any refund is just lost money for the seller essentially? I have seen those before, but didn’t really know what to make of them.

It is because Seller Fulfilled Prime now follows the same rules as FBA. If the customer has a valid return, the return is auto initiated by Amazon customer service. If you receive the item back and don’t have an issue you return it to inventory. If you do, you file the safe-t claim. Amazon will charge the shipping to the buyer in the case that they are responsible or they will charge you if the they grant the buyer free return shipping. Basically this is so SFP feels just like the real Prime. Actually they are just taking more customer service off your hands. If the whole return is bunk you still get reimbursed in the long run. This was a headline about terms of service change for SFP that was at the top of Seller Central for a couple weeks straight. I have had pretty good luck with SFP for the most part.
