Amazon Handmade Reclassification: What You Need to Know

*Update: We've added more details and resources on this topic. You can find more information here: Handmade product types will be reclassified August 18 through October 31

Hello Sellers,

Amazon Handmade is currently implementing a planned reclassification of products from general "GUILD" product types to more specific standard product types, occurring in several phases throughout 2025. While we recognize that some sellers have reported challenges during this transition, the reclassification process is proceeding according to schedule.

This change is designed to improve product discoverability, enhance detail page features, and enable multi-marketplace listing capabilities.

As we progress with the reclassification, we are notifying sellers of timing and expectations. Please look out for these important email and forum communications.

Once you have been notified, we encourage you to validate your new product types, assign appropriate Handmade classification attributes, and ensure all required attributes are complete. These steps are crucial to maintain optimal product visibility and buyability.

For specific guidance, please refer to the documentation provided in Handmade communications. If you encounter any technical concerns during the transition, don't hesitate to contact Seller Support for assistance.

Glad to have an update as my reason for hitting the forum just now was to ask WHEN!

I was told today my listings really were not handmade anymore and I needed to delete and start a new listing and lose the 75 reviews that took me 10 years to build up. Not only that, but they are connected to COMPLIANCE so this is not just a simple thing to deal with. I am glad we will finally be getting some information regarding when and what is happening with our individual handmade accounts.

Thanks for the update!

@Joey_AmazonIn the last communication I received (at the beginning of this month for the wave that was supposed to just be from 6-15 to 6-30) we were explicitly told NOT to contact seller support as they expected the auditing of the listings to take until the 31st of July. I still have 2/3 of my catalog in various kinds of limbo and am not holding out much hope that everything will be fixed by the 31st.

On Aug 1, can we just submit one case with all ASINs that are still messed up, or are we expected to put in one case per ASIN to get things fixed? The complete lack of communication is so frustrating - even this post is really vague with actionable details.

It looks like as soon as mine went to new classifications sales died. It was as if a switch was flipped from on to off. Coincidence? Pretty stressed out right now.

Edit, also I have received no communications about this since oct 2024 and definitely wasn't notified. A lot of mine are in the wrong category, should I change them? I haven't been told whether to or not.

Edit 2 (because I figure sharing information might be useful for someone) Changing the category's seems to be helping sales. The ones I have done seem to be selling again. So going to keep at that this afternoon.

I'm confused, I thought Amazon was moving our products that we already had listed to the proper department and we didn't have to do anything with our old listings? All that we are supposed to do is make sure any new listings that we put up in the future are put up in the right category. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Once again looks like im a guinea pig for stupid things... I did NOT receive ANY notification the my listings were changed, and now they are all in a random "sticker and sticker machine" category instead of anything remotely based on where they belong.

Frustrating to say the LEAST. Sales have gone to ABSOLUTE ZERO overnight as a result as well. Thanks for that.

Amazon's algorithms may automatically change your product categories, often due to system errors, and you won’t receive any notifications about these changes. It’s important to check your listings regularly, either weekly or monthly, just as you would review them for any optimizations.
