Product Image Requirements and Best Practices
Professional and compliant product images are essential for marketplace success, serving both Amazon requirements and conversion optimisation. This guide outlines Amazon's image standards and provides best practices for creating effective product listings.
Review the product image guide.
Main Image Requirements:
- Professional quality, well-lit, in focus
- Pure white background (RGB 255,255,255)
- Product should fill 85% or more of the frame
- Exclude additional text, graphics, or watermarks
- Display the actual product being sold (no illustrations)
- No props or accessories not included in the purchase
- Minimum 1000 pixels on the longest side for zoom capability
- Maximum 10GB file size
- Accepted formats: JPEG (.jpg/.jpeg), TIFF (.tif/.tiff), PNG (.png)
- Colour mode: RGB or CMYK
- File names must contain the product identifier (ISBN, UPC, EAN, or JAN) and end with .jpg, .tif, or .png
Best Practices
Show Multiple Angles: In addition to the front view, buyers may want to see the back view, side views, close-ups of important features and the product in use
Highlight Key Features: Consider if you need to use infographics in secondary images, show size/scale reference, display product dimensions, or demonstrate key benefits
Quality Matters: Always use high-resolution photos, ensure consistent lighting, maintain colour accuracy, and try to keep backgrounds clean and consistent
Mobile Optimisation: Preview how images appear on mobile devices and ensure text is readable on smaller screens
Seasonality: Consider refreshing images with seasonally relevant themes as we enter the Christmas season. In general, quarterly audits of older listings is a good practice to check for outdated or non-compliant images.
Great images not only keep your listings compliant but also help customers make confident purchasing decisions. Start implementing these guidelines today to improve your listings and boost your sales potential!

A Total waste of time and effort i am afraid.
As with most things that Amazon put out for Best Practices and Requirements......
You are very good at telling us what you want, but absolutely rubbish at helping us to correct your broken catalogue and in fact put more roadblocks into performing your requirements than help !!
See below example of just ONE such incident where i have tried to get a very simple non-compliant photo changed to a compliant photo, but as always..... Amazon says no, or you are not authorised to fix our catalogue for us, or send us round in circles with seller support for weeks until we give up.
Same issue with changing a Title, or bullet points, or hijacked listings for the reviews.
Always.... Amazon says please help us fix.... computer says no !! Seller support says no !!
Yet if it causes a violation through another sellers bad listing, or incorrectly merged ASIN's, or a 3rd party bad actor.... ALWAYS innocent sellers fault and penalty applies, without any help to fix the issue to get rid of the violation as.... computer says no and seller support says no !!

Yet another total waste of time! More condescending, patronising guff
We've dozens of listings done by others, that we have to list on due to Amazons broken catalogue system, that the photos downloaded by the other parties contravene Amazons picture rule. We've uploaded photos that do meet the regulations but Amazon WONT USE THEM, they leave the listing as it is even when asked to update the listing.
As for the pure white backgrounds! As Amazon ever considered that you can't take a picture of a pure white item and put it against a pure whire background? WHY you may ask @TaylorR_Amazon, the reason is because the items don't stand out very well.
And what happens when a seller goes to the bother of placing all the right photos, that meets all the requirements @TaylorR_Amazon? Amazon either change them or they let someone else change them to something else compleatly different or of a lower standard.
So @TaylorR_Amazon I suggest that the Amazon powers that be. get their own house in order before getting you and your collegues to lecture others that know the rules all too well.
