Changes to Skin Lightening Products

Changes to Skin Lightening Products

We’ve updated the policy and compliance requirements for Selling Partners to sell skin lightening products in our stores. Effective October 23, 2024, skin lightening products need to be verified through a third-party Testing, Inspection and Certification (TIC) organization.

The Manage Your Compliance dashboard shows listings for skin lightening products that require your actions along with the due dates under Compliance status. Listings may be subject to removal if they are not confirmed as being compliant with our policy by the specified due date.

To ensure that your listings are compliant with our policy, you must use the Manage Your Compliance dashboard to initiate a test for each product with one of the third-party TIC organizations. Once testing is requested, you’ll work directly with the third-party TIC organization to complete the testing of your products. For testing instructions, go to the Manage Your Compliance dashboard and select Add or appeal compliance.

Once we receive a test result that confirms compliance with our policy, your product will be eligible for sale on Amazon.

We will conduct a live webinar on November 06, 2024 at 11:00 AM Pacific Time to cover Amazon’s policy on selling skin lightening products in the US store and answer any of your questions. Click here to register!

If you have any questions regarding this policy update, please include them in the replies of this thread.

Hello,

We have several ASINs that have been flagged for product compliance (skin lightening). These ASINs were previously approved by the product safety team a few months ago based on our accredited lab's mercury test reports.

Could you please clarify whether it is mandatory to request a lab service through the "Manage Compliance" dashboard? Or can we use our existing mercury test report?

Additionally, if we decide to request a test from MYC, what specific tests will they conduct on the product?

Thank you for your assistance!

Hello! We have had some products flagged under this policy as "skin lightening." These are anti-aging products for removing wrinkles, but they are not meant to lighten or bleach the skin. Should these products be considered "skin lightening" under the policy even though they are not lightening products?

Hello Jameson,

We have products that were flagged and pulled for Skin Whitening before the system even asked us to ship to an authorized lab. We have additional product requests for products to be tested but were given months to get this done. Does this mean the original products amazon pulled if tested should be ok? We seem to have been hit before the roll out of specified labs was an option.

Hello James,

We have followed Amazon's request to use one of the accredited labs to test the product for Skin Whitening (Mercury). We have submitted the documents from the lab and it comes back as rejected.(We received your submission and after careful review we have determined that your ASINs do not meet the criteria for reinstatement.)

We used 1 of the 4 labs that Amazon listed on the drop down.

We have another 35 products requesting these test for February and should be coming back shortly.

Thank you for your help.

I think the issue is not the policy itself. However, it’s the expensiveness of the Lab quality control testing for product that does not fall into the skin lightening category. Despite other same product are listed on amazon whilst they are required this lab test. If the listing had a word that triggers this, we should be able to bring necessary corrections. And unfortunately I am just having the same issue. I appealed and it was rejected.

Skin Lightening has been one of the biggest failures that I have seen. A huge number of our items are flagged for "Skin Lightening" where Amazon wants a test for (Mercury).

Quotes have come back for $2000 to $3000 per ASIN for these tests.

We have test completed by an accredited lab BUT Amazon's system DOES NOT allow us to upload these reports.

Support has told us to download: "The template contains all ASINs with active requests for compliance documentation." The download is blank and DOES NOT CONTAIN any ASINs.
