They can be. The Style Number is normally a unique number set by the manufacturer to identify the product, and if you want, you can use that number as your SKU.

The Stock Keeping Unit (SKU) is the merchant-assigned string to identify a particular product. Companies are able to keep track of the quantities they have in inventory by this number.
