Variation Reviews Split - Amazon Targeting My Products

Amazon has again split my reviews among variations of the same product, only difference is flavor. I have checked all competitors and many that actually have different products still sharing reviews.

I've opened a case, but they are still saying the same generic response "Customer reviews are only shared between product variations when they represent exactly the same product. If variations differ in features, specifications, or intended use, the reviews will remain separate for each variation. This approach ensures that reviews remain accurate and relevant for customers making purchasing decisions."

It looks like you're caught in the familiar situation where Amazon's processes have no understanding of the product category they're dealing with. The same rules for handling “flavor” variations are being applied to your categories like Appetite Control & Suppressants—where flavor is usually not an important factor—as to categories like Snack Foods and Soft Drink Mixes, where flavor is the main selling point.

We've fought similar issues for years (for example, products being assigned to browse nodes that confuse buyers because they don't match the product) and got only circular, unhelpful replies from Seller Support. We found that the only way to possibly get assistance is to post a Case ID (as you have done) and tag a helpful mod like @Michelle_Amazon.

It's a concern that a lot of competitors in your categories (e.g., B0FMLLYP9N, B0G67NPF1H, B0F3FHZT9R, and many others) have not had their reviews split at this time, creating a very uneven playing field.

However, given that this policy of splitting reviews is immature and seeing an onslaught of seller complaints, knowing how Amazon operates I think it might be tough to get this resolved in your favor.

I totally agree. Just - to help the OP we should know WHAT is the product he sells and if the flavour is important or not.

The new review sharing process has begun.

This is not entirely accurate.

Per their announcement, Amazon is splitting the reviews on some product variations:

==============

With this change, reviews will only be shared between variations with minor differences that don’t affect functionality.

Reviews will continue to be shared for the following variations:

  • Color or pattern variations of the same product.
  • Size variations that maintain the same function, like king-sized and queen-sized bedding.
  • Pack size or quantity variations.
  • Secondary scent variations for non-scent-focused products, like lemon-scented vs. unscented cleaning products.
  • Different model fitments for the same product type, like phone cases for different models.

==============

It’s clear that their new process doesn’t account for the reality that an appetite-control supplement’s flavor should be handled the same way as their example of a cleaning product’s scent.

Hello @Seller_nEz0RqxrUoJHz,

Thank you for reaching out. As other sellers have noted, there was a recent announcement regarding how reviews are shared across variations.

Going forward, reviews will only be shared between variations with minor differences that don't affect functionality. Since the flavor differences you're describing impact the product's taste, reviews will now be separated among those variations.

As outlined in the Guidelines for reviews shared across product variations:

"Examples of when reviews will not be shared across variations:

Flavor, Ingredients, or Formulation: Different taste or composition in food, drinks, or supplements (like protein shakes in chocolate vs vanilla or pet food with chicken vs salmon)."

If you notice that some competitors' reviews are still being shared across variations, this may be because the separation hasn't been fully implemented yet. According to the announcement, this review separation is being rolled out gradually between February 12, 2026, and May 31, 2026.

Thank you for your understanding.

Regards,

- Manny

@Manny_Amazon, thank you for commenting in this thread.

I think the core issue is that humans can reliably tell if it makes sense to split reviews across variations, while it looks like Amazon’s bots cannot.

A simple test is:

Would I still recommend the product if it were the best option, even though I personally don't like the variation?

Soft drink — orange flavor: No. If I dislike the flavor, I wouldn’t recommend the product.

Household cleaner — lemon scent: Yes. I could still recommend it if it works best.

Weight-loss supplement — tropical flavor: Yes. The flavor is secondary to the result.

It's frustrating to see automated processes fail to understand pretty obvious logic—and sabotage our listings as a result.
