Electric bicycles (e-bikes)

If you list products on our store, you must comply with all federal, state, and local laws and our policies applicable to those products and product listings, including this policy.

E-bikes covered by this policy

Electric bicycles, also called e-bikes, covered by this policy are two-wheeled devices that are used for personal transportation. E-bikes have an added battery and pedal-power system that aid the rider with added torque to assist in propulsion.

Our policy for e-bikes

Amazon requires that all e-bikes have been tested to and comply with the specific regulation or standard requirements listed below:

Product Regulation/Standard requirements
  • 16 CFR Part 1512 (Requirements for Bicycles); and

  • ANSI/CAN/UL 2849 (Standard for Electrical Systems for E-Bikes); or
  • ANSI/CAN/UL 2272 (Standard for Electrical Systems for Personal E-Mobility Devices); or
  • EN 15194 (European Electric Bike Safety Standard)

Required information

We may request this information from you at any time, so we recommend that you have it easily accessible:

  • Your company name (if applicable) and seller ID
  • Your contact information: email address and phone number
  • A list of all e-bikes that you list
  • Images of the product and product packaging, as applicable, for all e-bikes that you list. Images must include all sides of the product and product packaging for our review.
  • Product images or test report as evidence of compliance with mandatory bicycle instructions and labeling requirements (16 CFR Part 1512.19)
  • A General Certificate of Conformity (GCC) for all e-bikes that you list
  • Test reports from an ISO 17025 accredited laboratory confirming each product was tested to applicable requirements listed above

How to submit information

If you are contacted by us for compliance documents, complete the following steps to submit the requested information:

  1. In Seller Central, select the Performance tab, and choose Account health.
  2. Under Product compliance requests in the bottom right corner of the page, click Documentation requests.
  3. Click Provide documentation or appeal next to the product.
  4. Select No to upload documents.
  5. Follow the steps in the Submit required documents section.

Note: Test reports must contain images of the tested products that are sufficient to demonstrate that the product tested is the same as the product listed on the detail page.

Policy violations

If you do not provide the required information by the applicable deadline, we may take the following actions:

  • Remove the relevant product listings
  • Suspend your ability to add new products, your listing privileges, or both
  • Withhold any payments due to you

We reserve the right to take any further actions that may be necessary in our sole discretion.
