Children's bicycle helmets
A bicycle helmet is any headgear that is marketed as, or implied through marketing or promotion to be, a device that protects a bicycle rider from head injuries while riding. Bicycle helmets that are designed or intended primarily for children 12 years of age or younger are considered children’s products under the Consumer Product Safety Act, and are covered by this policy. This policy does not cover helmets specifically marketed or promoted for exclusive use in a designated activity other than riding a bicycle (for example, skateboarding, rollerblading, baseball, hockey, and so on). If a helmet is marketed or promoted for use by children while riding a bicycle in addition to another activity, it is covered by this policy. A multi-purpose helmet marketed or promoted for use by children without specific reference to the activities in which it is to be used is also covered by this policy.
This policy does not include general or adult-use bicycle helmets. For more information, go to our policy on bicycle, ski, and snowboard helmets.
Children's ski and snowboard helmets
Ski and snowboard helmets are specifically designed and constructed for use while skiing and snowboarding. These helmets consist of a hard outer shell constructed from materials including, but not limited to, plastic, fiberglass, or carbon fiber, and a padded inner core, typically made from expanded polystyrene foam. Ski and snowboard helmets that are designed or intended primarily for children 12 years of age or younger are considered children’s products under the Consumer Product Safety Act, and are covered by this policy. This policy does not cover helmets specifically marketed or promoted for exclusive use in a designated activity other than skiing or snowboarding (for example, skateboarding, rollerblading, baseball, hockey, and so on). If a helmet is marketed or promoted for use by children while skiing or snowboarding in addition to another activity, it is covered by this policy. A multi-purpose helmet marketed or promoted for use by children without specific reference to the activities in which it is to be used is also covered by this policy.
This policy does not include general or adult-use ski and snowboard helmets. For more information, go to our policy on bicycle, ski, and snowboard helmets.
