Electronic mobility (e-mobility) devices

If you list products on our store, you must comply with all federal, state, and local laws and our policies applicable to those products and product listings, including this policy.

E-mobility devices covered by this policy

An e-mobility device is a self-balancing transport device powered by a rechargeable battery pack (most commonly lithium-ion) that uses the shifting weight of the rider to balance the device.

Hoverboards

A hoverboard, also known as a “monorover” or “self-balancing electronic scooter,” is an electronic mobility device that has two wheels and a board, between the two wheels, that a user stands on. The user moves their feet to direct the hoverboard to move forward or backwards.

Self-balancing unicycles

A self-balancing unicycle is an electronic-mobility unicycle device that uses sensors in conjunction with an electronic motor to assist a rider with balancing on a single wheel, and does not have a handle for the user to grip. The self-balancing unicycle is also known as a "single wheel scooter" or a "unicycle scooter.”

Electronic skateboards (e-skateboards)

An electronic skateboard has four wheels and an added battery pack and power system to aid riders with added torque while travelling. An electronic skateboard may have a handheld remote control that allows the rider to control the device during use.

Electronic scooters (e-scooters)

An electronic scooter is an e-mobility device that has two or more wheels, a low platform, a vertical element for the user to grasp, and a method of steering. There are several types of electronic scooters, including foldable scooters, kickstand scooters, and rideable scooters such as mopeds. Electronic scooters have limited range and a maximum speed of less than 40 miles per hour.

Self-balancing personal transporter devices

A self-balancing transporter device may have one or two wheels. These devices are powered by a rechargeable battery pack and use the shifting weight of the rider to balance the device.

Electronic tricycles (e-trikes or e-tricycles)

An electronic tricycle, also called an e-trike or e-tricycle, is a three-wheeled device that is used for personal transportation and has an added battery and pedal-power system to aid the rider with added torque that assists in propulsion.

E-mobility device accessories

An e-mobility device accessory is an item that can be added to or used with an electronic mobility device. Examples of these include e-mobility device chargers and batteries.

At this time, we do not accept applications for listings of electronic mobility device accessories.

Our policy for e-mobility devices

We require that all e-mobility devices have been tested to and comply with the specific regulation or standard requirements listed below:

  • ANSI/CAN/UL 2272 (Standard for Electrical Systems for Personal E-Mobility Devices); or
  • ASTM F2641 (Standard Consumer Safety Specification for Recreational Powered Scooters and Pocket Bikes);

And

  • UL 1642 (Lithium-Ion Battery Testing, Certification, and Validation); or
  • UL 2054 (Standard for Household and Commercial Batteries); or
  • IEC/UL/CSA 62133-2 (Lithium-Ion Battery Testing, Certification, and Validation)

Required information

We may request this information from you at any time, so we recommend that you have it easily accessible:

  • Your company name (if applicable) and seller ID
  • Your contact information: email address and phone number
  • A list of all e-mobility devices that you list
  • Images of the product and product packaging, as applicable, for all e-mobility devices that you list. Images must include all sides of the product and product packaging for our review.
  • Evidence of compliance with e-mobility label requirements, as applicable – product image or test report
  • Any product instructions and manuals for all e-mobility devices that you list
  • Test reports from an ISO 17025 accredited laboratory that confirm that each product was tested to the applicable requirements listed above

How to submit information

If you are contacted by Amazon, please submit the information listed above to hoverboard-listing@amazon.com.

Note: Test reports must contain images of the tested products that are sufficient to demonstrate that the product tested is the same as the product listed on the detail page.

Policy violations

If you do not provide the required information by the applicable deadline, we may take the following actions:

  • Remove the relevant product listings
  • Suspend your ability to add new products, your listing privileges, or both
  • Withhold any payments due to you

We reserve the right to take any further actions that may be necessary in our sole discretion.
