The Amazon Services Business Solutions Agreement requires that you remove all "unsuitable units" from Amazon fulfillment centers.
Stranded inventory units with active offers will not be automatically removed. For more information, go to Resolve stranded inventory issues.
The following stranded reasons are not subject to required removals at this time:
All sellers are expected to update their stranded auto-removal settings to remove stranded inventory automatically.
Units can become stranded due to account-level or listing-level issues. Auto-removal settings allow sellers to choose the preferred auto-removal option, as well as the stranded duration, before the inventory is automatically removed. This applies to both account-level and listing-level stranded reasons.
The stranded auto-removal settings page shows you the Amazon recommended and the Maximum days allowed to schedule auto-removal for the stranded inventory. The recommended number of days and the maximum number of days will vary based on the stranded reason.
The maximum days allowed for each stranded reason is shown below:
Stranded type | Stranded reason | Maximum days |
---|---|---|
Listing-level stranded inventory | Policy violations and restrictions | 60 days |
Severe policy violations and restrictions | 30 days | |
Closed/Merchant fulfilled units | 180 days | |
Deleted listing | 30 days | |
Account-level stranded inventory | Pending valid credit card (PVCC) | 60 days |

If you have enabled us to accelerate the automatic removal of stranded units, those units can be removed more quickly and you might not receive a notification before the auto-removal date.
You can accelerate the automatic removal of stranded units by assigning a value less than the maximum days allowed in the Days before automatic removal field. You can either choose the Amazon recommended number of days or provide your own.
To customize your automatic removal settings, go to Fix stranded inventory and click Edit automatic action settings.
The table below shows whether you will receive a notification before the automatic removal. It also indicates when you might receive the notification if you choose the Amazon recommended number of days in the automatic removal settings.
Stranded type | Stranded reason | Recommended days | Will you receive notification? | Days stranded before first notification sent | Days before scheduled removal |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Listing-level stranded inventory | Policy violations and restrictions | 30 days | Yes | 30 | 0 |
Severe policy violations and restrictions | 7 days | Yes | 0 | 7 | |
Closed/Merchant fulfilled units | 90 days | No | |||
Deleted listing | 14 days | Yes | 0 | 14 | |
Account-level stranded inventory | PVCC | 45 days | No | ||
Suspended | 45 days | No | |||
Blocked | 45 days | Yes | 30 | 15 | |
Fraud | 45 days | No |
To view when your units are scheduled for removal, you can monitor the Fix stranded inventory page.
You can create a removal order before the scheduled automatic removal to have the inventory disposed of or returned to you. Removal fees will apply.
If you choose Return units to me as your removal method, make sure your return address is updated in the Stranded automatic removal settings.
Updating the address in the fulfillable and unfulfillable settings does not automatically update the address in Stranded automatic removal settings. Stranded and unfulfillable addresses must be updated independently.
To update your address, go to Fix stranded inventory and click Edit automatic action settings.
If you need more time, go to Fix stranded inventory and select Delay removal 30 days from the drop-down menu to the right of the listing.
