Unplanned service fees

Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA) may charge you an unplanned service fee if items that should have an Amazon barcode are missing the barcode label when they arrive at the fulfillment center. The first table below describes those fees.

The second table provides a preview of unplanned service fees that could be charged for safety-related problems. FBA won't charge you a fee during the preview period. See Inbound Performance Summary for definitions of these problems and more details. Also, see:

Fee-type details

The unplanned service fees appear as one of the following fee types:

  • Unplanned service fee: FBA has charged you a fee.
  • Unplanned service fee preview: Preview period only. FBA has not charged you a fee.
  • Refund: FBA has refunded the fee.
  • Unplanned service fee (first instance): For the problem types shown in the table above, the first time there is a problem with a shipment to the fulfillment center, FBA charges a per-unit fee.
  • Unplanned service fees (subsequent occurrences): For additional inventory shipments with the same problem type, FBA charges a per-unit fee.

See unplanned service fees for a shipment

You can see your unplanned service fees in the following locations:

  • On your Inbound Performance report in the Fee Total column
  • In your Shipping Queue. Click Track shipment to the right of the shipment that has a problem. On the Shipment summary page, go to the Problems tab.
  • On the Manage Your Payments page. Go to the Transaction view tab, filter view by Service Fees, and find Unplanned Service Fee in the Product Details column.

How to dispute unplanned service fees

If you think FBA charged you an unplanned service fee in error, you can request an investigation. If you do so, we will verify the current prep guidance that pertains to your specific product or the issue reported at the fulfillment center.

Note: We will consider only investigation requests you submit within 30 days of the problem report date.

You should receive your reimbursement with the next scheduled Amazon payment. If you don't, check the status of the dispute in your cases and requests log. Search for the relevant case and click View or Respond.
