|Definition||Shipping weight is the rounded item weight. The shipping weight is calculated based on the item’s unit weight or dimensional weight.|
|Using this article||The shipping weight of an item is used to calculate FBA fulfillment fees. After reading this article, you will be able to determine the shipping weight for an item. To accomplish this task, you should first know the unit weight, product volume and dimensions, the dimensional weight, and the product size tier of the item.|

Standard size and special oversize
The shipping weight is calculated for each unit using the unit weight. Shipping weight in the small standard and large standard size tiers under 1 lb is calculated by rounding up to the nearest whole ounce. For the remaining size tiers, the shipping weight (see details below) is calculated by rounding up to the nearest whole pound.
Large standard-size items weighing more than 0.75 lb, small oversize, medium oversize, and large oversize
The shipping weight is calculated for each unit by using the greater of the unit weight or the dimensional weight. The dimensional weight is equal to the unit volume (length x width x height) divided by 139. The dimensional weight for oversize items assumes a minimum width and height of 2 inches. The total shipping weight for each unit is rounded up to the nearest pound.
|Size tier||Shipping weight
(If less than 1 lb, round up to nearest whole ounce. If 1 lb or over, round up to nearest whole pound.)
|Standard size (0.75 lb or less)||Unit weight1|
|Standard size (more than 0.75 lb)||The greater of the unit weight1 or dimensional weight2|
|Oversize||The greater of the unit weight1 or dimensional weight2|
|Special oversize||Unit weight1|
1 The unit weight is the weight of an individual unit in manufacturer-provided product packaging.
2 For large standard-size units weighing more than 0.75 lb and all small oversize, medium oversize, and large oversize units, Amazon uses dimensional weight when it is greater than the unit weight.

Unit weight is used as an input to calculate the shipping weight. Shipping weight also takes into account the dimensional weight in certain cases. View more details on the Unit weight page.
